This world was never created to have total peace. Earthlings are barbarians. They only know violence (except for us good people). And, of course you have sin and the devil and that changes everything...no world peace! The world wouldn't know what to do if it had total peace. What's your thoughts on this matter?

Hear what God has said through His prophet Jeremiah regarding this...

“In the last days the mountain of the LORD’s temple will be established as chief among the mountains; it will be raised above the hills, and all nations will stream to it. Many peoples will come and say, ‘Come, let us go up to the mountain of the LORD, to the house of the God of Jacob. He will teach us his ways, so that we may walk in his paths.’ The law will go out from Zion, the word of the LORD from Jerusalem. He will judge between the nations and will settle disputes for many peoples. They will beat their swords into plowshares and their spears into pruning hooks. Nation will not take up sword against nation, nor will they train for war anymore.”

And again, he wrote, “Every warrior’s boot used in battle and every garment rolled in blood will be destined for burning, will be fuel for the fire. For to us a child is born, to us a son is given, and the government will be on his shoulders…Of the increase of his government and peace there will be no end.”

Well, no offense, but if people think like that we won't ever have peace. Yes, we are animals, but we have something that animals don't seem to have: reason. And, in my opinion, the reasons for peace seem to greatly outweigh the reasons for conflict. I'm not saying it's going to happen in my life time, but I believe we have the capability to be peaceful.
We are so scared by the things and people that are different from us that we cannot deal with them in a civilized way. That is what wars seem to be about to me. There are two sides of an issue, and, instead of working together to get a compromise or some sort of agreement, we polarize and then refuse to see the other point of view. Unfortunately, I am seeing this more and more in the United states as our current government slowly divides the country in two. But, people are recognizing this and will work to keep our country, and eventually the world, united.
To answer that original question, I don't believe praying will do much. We have to do it ouselves.

PS- In response to "the woman ate that dang apple" -- its the men who start all the wars, though.

Gandhi said " to change the world, be the change you want to see in the world" we must practice compassion...first we can start by being vegetarian and save many lives every year by being part of the solution instead of the problem of slaughtering innocent animals that have the same right to be here and live as we do.....you are right we are barbarians....but we can start to make changes and set a good example to those around us

You're right - the prophecies tell us that the world is not heading in a peaceful direction although christians are told to pray for peace in Jerusalem ie. there will be peace when Jesus returns

Incorrect. The world was peacefull with adam and eve until the woman ate that dang apple. And christians pray for forgiveness and for others to find the light so others can be saved. if others come to find the light there will be peace again but more importanlty the kingdm of God will reign back on earth and be seen in all that everyone does

Try telling a group (Yahoo Q@A) to pray at the same time every day for peace. Then see what happens.

Maybe it's for a moment of peace, or for a bit of peace, or peace in a specific event like war. We can still pray, right?

There is nothing called a period of absolute peace or a period of absolute violence.
Historically it has been proved there were periods in All Civilizations
where Peace was more or less prevalent and periods where War and Violence was more or less prevalent.

I think that it is futile to pray for peace.. If you are someone who believes in prayer.. then I assume that you are someone who believes in the Bible... and if you read Revelations at all, you will know that the future holds the exact opposite of peace...

And why do you refer to us as earthlings? Are you not from earth? jk :)

Humans always have and always will fight with each other. We are just as territorial as other animals ("get off my lawn!" "get out of my country!") and aggressive, in action or attitude, toward those that are "different" and perceived as intruders. Like wolves not wanting to let a stranger that smells unfamiliar into the pack...
