reasons i feel people do not vote; unaware of the issues, social stigma that it doesnt count, plain old laziness. in some states the out come may be pretty much decided because they are pretty sure they can count on some group not to vote on larger elections. Some states are majority democrat or republican sure and when it comes for voting on higher offices its either one or the other too but you can still go out an vote. Voting for your city councilman, mayors or other lower level public elects, these influence the higher officials and working of the government in a whole.

ONE VOTE* I am referring to larger elections, where it has not been one or lost by one single vote, if 3 people an election voted one would count more than enough. So im pretty much saying if theres a forest fire and you have a drop of water, don't not throw it on becasue you know it won't stop the fire, but get a bunch of your friends together, get your drops together and save some trees *ONE VOTE

to me sometimes a nonvote shows you dont favor either position,so 1 vote may count to a candidate, but if i have to choose of 2 candidates that i dont believe in, then i dont vote because that vote is not a real vote in favor of ,but in disfavor of, either way i have to accept the consequences of a vote in wrong direction or none at all giving a vote up to chance. so i say give me a reason to vote then youll get it.

Well, you could be right about the laziness, I always thought of it as apathy. Most people dont care as long as they can get their Lotto tickets and a 6 pack on Friday night so they can sit down in front of the TV and pretty much do the same thing until they die. We think we have democracy and we dont, we think we are free and we arent. When the middle class wakes up and realizes that our tax dollars are paying for wars with people who havent done anything to us, just to justify $41 billion worth of contracts to Halliburton and other large corporations, then maybe something will change. It's a small percentage of people who control the money in this country and it wont change until there is a revolution, when the poor rise up and demand change. Corporate America loves to spend your tax dollars. Then when you put a buffoon in the White House who manipulates us with FEAR, we OK everything his administration tells us in the name of security. We are really doing what they want, giving them the OK to invade another country in the name of "democracy." You dont have to believe me, turn off the TV and do some reading: Noam Chomsky, Howard Zinn, Michael Parenti, even Al Franken. Maybe then our vote might count for something.

Everyone should vote and every single vote does count. Pertinent decisions have been made through the ages that were because of a single vote that decided the issue. Everyone has a say and should use their right wisely.

My vote counts, but the unfortunate thing is that an uninformed idiot who blindly pulls the same levers election after election can negate my vote with another pull of that lever. Too bad one's vote is not weighted based on their knowledge of the issues, current events, taxes, government, etc.

"In a democracy, the people get the government they deserve."

Especially if they don't vote.
