Sit with the kitty in a bedroom or in the bathroom. Just sit and talk to him, calmly and not in a baby-talk voice. If he crawls into your lap, just pet him, don't hold him. If he jumps off, let him go. Keep him in that room for a day or two, and just let him wander around. When you let him out, leave him alone. Let him get the layout of your place and eventually he'll be all right.

Usually when a cat moves to a new area it causes them stress since they are in new territory and they're out of the area they've gotten familiar with. When a cat is in one place and claims all its territory, it spreads phermones everywhere that reassures the cat and helps calm it down.
My cat was doing the same thing when I moved, I thought she had turned psycho. After a while it will go away and the cat will start acting normal again (although my cat is terrified of strangers for some reason). If it gets really bad you can buy this stuff called Feliway from a pet store. It's a synthetic phermone you plug into an electrical outlet that helps the cat adjust until he gets used to his new surroundings. It's not cheap though - try 40 dollars for a dispenser with a month or so's worth. You shouldn't need more than a month but the refills are something like 12 dollars.

Give him time to get used to everything. Poor little thing is probably anxious about being in a new place. When he feels he is used to the new place, let him decide to come to you. Don't force yourself on him, that will only scare him more than he already is.
My 1 year old cat was like that when we first got him. He would run and hiss, and hide all the time. After a few weeks when he realized that there was no reason to do that and after he got used to his surroundings, he took the initiative to get to know me.

I had a little feral kitty I caught crocodile-hunter-style, and the way I won her over was grab her by the scruff of her neck, hold her down and pet her, the way a moma cat would lick her babies, kinda hard. I did it for a long time, eventually she just relaxed and accepted it. After that I was her mommy. I would also recommend lots of meaty treats, and keep her confined at night so she will be happy to see you in the morning, since you will be equated with freedom.

He has alot of energy now, but will settle down as time goes on. Continue to be loving to him and he will stop the hissing and running and hiding. Pet him when you feed him so he connects his feeding with you. Best of luck with the little guy.

First make sure you're calm around him. Then let him observe everything around him including you. Every cat is like that when it's a new kitty. Remember, don't go to it to much to scare it because then it will give you first bad impressions.

I had a kitten once that had been taken from its mom too soon, and to make the transition into our home easier, I kept him in my housecoat pocket for the evening, and every so often, I'd put my hand in and just keep it beside him. He was still kind of wild anyway after that, but it could have been worse.

All kittens are like that when you first get them. They are in a new place and are nervous and scared. Try to talk to him in a calm voice and make him feel safe. Then give him a couple of days and he should calm down.
