Started smoking when I was 13, I am 47 now. So far no health problems that I have noticed. But I know they can't be far away. Whenever I have tried I gain weight. Not just a little. I am talking anywhere from 30-80 pounds. I have a weight problem as it is. I smoke up to 3 packs a day. I tried the raw veggie thing years ago, but know I have had my top teeth pulled so can not chew them. Did that patches & gum. Went to my Dr. he told me that pill (can't think of the name, it starts with a Z) is all in the head. I have come to the conclusion that a padded room with no way out might be the last thing. Just a figure of speach. To seclude myself from the outside world. So if there is anyone that has another idea please let me know. I will try anything.

Its not just the nicotine. Its also the other 50+ chemicals they out in cigarettes. Also the main problem is habit.
We have been used to having body sensations which we translate as 'my body needs something, which we have attempted to satisfy by having a cigarette.
When we try to stop smoking, we still get these 'my body needs something' sensations, and we still feel that we want a cigarette. We have to train our body to be more selective. When we feel we need something, we have to work out what it is that we actually need.
A glass of water is an excellent substitute if nothing else comes to mind, as it helps with the clearance of the toxic substances in our body. Another good substitute is a bag of salted peanuts, used in combination with the water.
Another thing to do is to find an activity which occupies the mind or body. Go swimming - nobody wants to smoke while they are swimming. Slowly, as our body adjusts and translates the 'want something' feelings into something other than cigarettes, then the feelings begin to go away. We know its not a cigarette that the body really needs, because as soon as we've had one we still have the feeling, and want another!

I feel for you and can relate. I started at 16. Im now 36....but was able to kick it a year ago. It was hard!!!!!! Had to go cold turkey. No commit or gum, or anything. Starting dating a doctor that objected. that was the main reason. I liked to smoke, and if not for him in my life....honestly....id still be smoking. Unfortunatly Ive put on about 15 lbs. It sucks. Almost enough to make me want to start again.(but wont). SAD!! Rather be unhealthy than FAT!!!!. But I feel better. You just have to decide you want to quit....and do it. The first two day are the worst. After that it gets easier. (as long as you dont go to a bar!! :-) )My ex-father in law quit a 3 pack a day habit of 20+ years by chewing gum! ALOT of gum. But really....you just have to decide your going to do it! Good luck.

Oi, had the same problem - started smoking at 15 and stopped just recently, I'm 33 and smoked up to 2 packs a day - what made me stop - well after trying everything that's out there and nothing worked - I started to restrict myself from smoking in the house that alone cut me down to one pack a day after that I stopped smoking in my car and from there I gave myself 3 in the am, 3 for lunch and 3 for pm and I gradual cut down from there till it actually came to a point where I just got annoyed to smoke.
So I don't know if this will help you - it worked for me but GOOD LUCK with it and you will be amazed how much better life is with out the stick in your mouth. I'll keep my fingers crossed for you.

One of my co-workers has a sister that is 50 and has just been diagnosed with emphysema. Quit now, long, slow, painful death should be motive enough. My Aunt died at 49 of lung cancer. She weighed 105 when she was diagnosed, but she was strong as a horse and lived another two years. She weighed 60 pounds when she died and suffered incredibly. Do you and your family a favor and quit while you might still have a chance to save yourself. For all you smokers out there, you might as well have yourself shot up with cancerous drugs for all the damage you are doing with smoking. Show some backbone and respect for your families and quit today.

I have a friend who used some NEW pill called CHANTIX. Seems a patient asked him about it & he had never heard of it. He jumped on the internet & did some research. It worked for him & he has recommended it to his patients.
When I saw your question, I called him. Here is the website he used
www.chantixhome.com

Good Luck!! I know it isn't easy, but you sound like you are ready & motivated that is an important first step.....

All I can say is you just are not ready to quit. You either put a cigarette in your mouth or you dont. unless someone is following you around and shoving them in your mouth you are doing it. or maybe you have a compulsive disorder and you cant stop sticking things in your mouth. If you can control your behavior in other areas then you can stop sticking things in your mouth. the only other reason you smoke is because you want to more than not. People quit everyday your not unique just weak.

oh dear..

for starters...
if u arent already...

Ask God for forgiveness and accept Him as your personal savior.
its important if you arent saved to KNOW you are going to heaven when you die.

And being saved helps you determine what God wants to do with you. You need to get closer to him to know what his will is for you. Being saved and asking God for help on the problem you are going through will make it easier and if that is what God has planned for you to do with the rest of your life then what ever you are doing rite now is a part of his will....

it might sound corny from a 13 year old girl... but if you are willing to change your habit of smoking and youve tried everything i urge you to get closer to God. He loves each and everyone of us and if you get closer to him... you wont be lost.. you will have a happy life. Everyone have problems like you do because everyone is a sinner. "For all have sinned and come short to the glory of God" Trust me God wants you to be happy. God wants to help you out.. all you have to do is give Him a chance.

God Bless.
