I don't want to participate in an organization that singles out people for any reason, race or sexuality. I'm not sure if the organization is still singling them out, and it's just more hush hush, or has gotten over it all. And I don't know if it's just the boy scouts or if the girl scouts are both doing it.

They are two completely different organizations and are run completely differently. Boy scouts was founded by Lord Baden Powel - who was friends with Juliette Gorden Low who founded the Girl Scouts in 1912. She did base the original program on the Boy Scout program - but today, they are very different.

The boy scout program is very structured. You have to wear uniforms, and basically all boys do the same things as they move through the ranks until they finally achieve Eagle Scout around the end of high school. Cub Scouts are set up in Dens that form larger pacts.

Girl Scouts is much more individualized. The program is customizable to what the girls in the troop want to do. While there are guidelines and programs to follow - the troop decides together what to do and what not to do. Uniforms are not required - although a vest or sash is recommended. The Highest award in Girl Scouting is called the Gold Award.

They do similar things in terms of camping, service and learning about the world - but girl scouts can also do fashion modeling or science or anything else they have interest in...

Boys and Girls are very different - it wouldn't make sense to have these programs operate exactly the same.

They are not the same organization. The boy scouts started in 1915 , followed by the cub scouts in 1930. the girls scouts didn't come about until later. Being a cub scout parent, I will tell you, don't listen to all that bad news about the boy scouts. Any people working with those boys must pass not only training, but a background check as well.

The two groups don't seem the same to me at all. The Boy Scouts (BSA) got a bad rap (deserved, in my opinion) for their stance on gay members. It seemed to come to a head when an Eagle Scout became a leader as a young adult and someone found out that he had been a prominent member of his college campus' gay/lesbian organization. The BSA turned its back on this young man and drummed him out of leadership. This was a classic case of equating homosexuality with pedophilia. It's unfortunate that such a fine organization was highjacked by a reactionary few.

The Girl Scouts organization seems to have kept out of the whole homosexuality issue, which I think is commendable.

A person's sexual preference should have no bearing on their suitability to be a Scout of either gender.

They are SUPPOSE to be basically the same. I have had experience with both and found that the Girl Scouts are a much better organized group. It just seems to be easier to get the girls to focus on goals and the boys just can't seem to settle down long enough:)
