how can u tell if a guy is flirting and not just being nice?

Well, that is a tough question to answer. Sometimes you just can't tell. BUT, here are a few clues:

1) Do you often catch him looking you in the eyes? That is a BIGGIE when it comes to flirting. I can't explain it but there seems to be some kind of mental connectivity through the eyes. When men look each other in the eyes, it is often interpreted as being antagonistic. My guess is that it is a dominance thing. If a man can force another man to look away, he becomes Alpha Male. When a man looks a woman in the eyes, he is trying to capture her attention. When he gets it, he might smile at her to evoke a positive emotion. Now, I'm not talking about big Cheshire cat grins. They are suttle, understanding, caring type of smiles.

2) Does he speak softly to you, often times lightly putting a hand on your shoulder or arm? This is flirting in most cases, particularly if he combines with point number one: the eyes.

3) How do you respond to him? Believe it or not, your response to his actions is a key motivator for him. If you return the touch or return the eyes and smile, particularly if the glance lasts for a full second or two, then he is definitely flirting and he will likely step up his flirtatious behavior.

4) How does he act around other women? If he acts the same way around everyone, including you, then he is a nice guy. But if he is giving you more attention than what is his norm, he is likely flirting.

5) What's his motive? Is he married or single? A single man is much more likely to be flirting than a married man. Beware, though, that sometimes married men will flirt, too. This could happen for one of two reasons (probably others as well). One, he wants to have a fling. The other is that he wants to know that he still has the ability to attract a woman. Most likely the second option is harmless; it's an ego thing. Sometimes men want to know that they still have it, even if they have no intention of following through with it.

If a guy is flirting you will know because guys arent so sweet all the time and if they are well then he's gay. Trust me i'm a guy i knwo these stuff. Oh ya and the guy will buy you stuff and call you alot but that aint what guys like they dont liek to tlak on th phone but if he's in love, he will call to flirt with you!

if he brushes apon you all the time talks to you in a very mannered way from usely he ain't being nice he's flirting i would know also when he talks to you every now & then tells you that he likes you & do you like him or something...aslo he'll try to treat you with a amount of respect that you beleive he is right for you to go on a date with him.

Oh come on guys, how can you say that a boy is never "just nice"?

Sometimes a guy will talk to you just because he is bored. If you spoke to him first, then he will sometimes talk for a few minutes just so that he will not appear rude.

If he is looking at you closely, then he likes you. If he is talking to you for longer that just a few sentences, then he likes you. If he is smiling, or laughing, then he probably likes you.

If he acts like he is not really listening to you, then he is just bored.
