The current standard for and engagement ring is 3 months gross salary. There is more to the diamond than size. Never by a ring. Pick out a stone and have it set. A setting runs about $100.00 a stone can cost most any price. I you buy a ring or set of rings your paying for the designer. There are books full of empty settings to choose from. Not ready for and engagement ring get a promise ring. That way you can save money up and shop to together.

It all depends on certain factors i think. Like one if someone who is well off buys a engagement ring with a rather small stone in it you would think he is a cheap skate. I would think that the diamond should somewhat reflect your means. I think the woman shouldn't expect you to go into debt just for a ring that says "please hit me over the head i am rich". You shouldn't need one truthfully but I would think if your prospect was one who wouldn't need one you would know.

BUT whatever you do..DO NOT believe the woman when she says it really doesn't matter. I spent around 270 U.S. Dollars for mine and the diamond isn't huge but it isn't small either. It was a bit more then i should have spent considering at the time i was making 10 a hour. With the overtime i was on it was about half of a weeks pay.

So after all my rambling on here i would say about a medium size is best.

The so called tradition is that the gentleman is suppose to purchase a ring that is equal to the amount of 2 months salary.
But I know a guy that ask his wife now to marry him with a ring out of the bubble gum machine until he could go with her to pick out the set.
I think that it is really up to you.
I got an engagement ring and when we got married got him a band, and until we could save a little I went without the wedding band.
The sole purpose of the ring I think is a token of their love to you and a sign that you are promised to another, (off the market so to speak). But if he doesn't have the funds for now go and put one on layaway at walmart, and that should surfice until you can afford a nicer set. Alot of women get better sets at a later date, it is simply up to you and your decision with your partner.

not married too..but if i were to be married in the future..i would like to have a ring of course and i would like to have two.the engagementa and the wedding..cause for me..its look cool..and it is sort of sweet for the guy to give you an engagement ring and then propose to you..and then those sort of things...

yah know..any gal would love that..and besides..diamonds are girls bestfriend..the bigger the better..however..being money-wise..i guess anything would do..not a fake though...wahaha..

and i guess it all come back to the love part thing..if you really love the guy..doesn't matter what size and how many rings he gave you..its all in the heart baby..

so that's it..hope i helped you..

smile!

The SIZE of a diamond doesn't matter. The ring is not essential.

A friend of mine wanted a peal rather than a diamond.

The size of the ring is not important. It is the intent behind it. Love is suppose to be the biggest part of the relationship, not the diamond.

The ring dosent have anything to do with the commitment. The ring is somewhat based on income and nothing more. I dont have a huge rock but my husband is hugely commited. lways home and treats me like a winner. I wouldnt care if I never got a stupid ring. Its all about sociol staus, not love.

I'd prefer if the money went on something more important than a piece of jewellery.

If the girl needs a big size ring, I'd have to wonder exactly where her priorities lie.

Nope. Diamonds aren't even really rare, so the price that people pay for them is ridiculous.

Me, I told my husband that if he bought into that idiot hype and bought me a diamond, I'd strangle him in his sleep.
He got me a tastefully sized precious gem ring, that has his birthstone and mine together, which means so much more to me than any huge diamond ever could.

I have a long, happy marriage that started when we were young and poor. So the rings were no big thing, and to tell you the truth we don't have them anymore. So I would have to say they don't matter.
