This is something I've truly wondered- I am NOT asking it to try and be sarcastic or anything. I'd like to hear what the pro-abortionists think. If you saw a pregnant woman out on the street stabbing herself in the stomach in an attempt to kill her baby, would you just let her do it (because it's her choice) or would you stop her? Like I said, this is not an attempt to be ugly to pro-abortionists, I've just wondered this because I just don't understand how anyone can think abortion is ok.

Another question- how is there no such thing as "pro-abortionist"? You either approve of abortions or you don't.

Thanks so far for the answers- but please answer the question that I've asked.

My aim in this question is to just see what people who approve of abortions believe. I'm a Christian who doesn't believe in abortion. I'm trying to see why people believe what they believe, and am trying to do it in a nice way. There are a lot of pro-life people out there that are well, a little psycho. (The ones that think it's ok to blow up abortion clinics or kill abortionists.) I believe that we should respect everyone (unborn babies included- which are living humans). No one should be mean or rude to someone because they have had an abortion. (That's why I don't understand how people go out and try to harm abortionists or women who have had abortions and claim to be doing it as "Christians". Jesus taught us to love everyone- not hurt them) In my eyes, unborn babies are innocent human beings that should not be killed. I know everyone doesn't agree with me. I just don't understand how some don't view abortion as murder.

Truelaw- Oh my goodness. That's horrible. I think there are just some really misguided (crazy?) pro-lifers and people claiming to be Christians that turn a lot of people against us. I think in all groups (pro-choice, pro-life, women, men, black, white, etc.) there are the bad ones that give everyone else a bad name.

I have to say I believe it is ok for women to get an abortion if it is because she was raped and got pregnant. My sister got pregnant by my dad because he raped her. She couldn't live with the fact that she was pregnant, and she had no boyfriend. She would have to have told all of her friends that her dad raped her and they were having a baby together if she didn't have an abortion early in her pregnancy. I myself never had one, probably never would unless I would have been in my sister's situation, and I would stop a woman I knew to be pregnant from stopping to stab herself just to kill her child that way. I don't think abortion should be a form of birth control, meaning that just because you are pregnant and having an abortion for the 5th time because of lack of using other methods from unwanted pregnancies. But in the past, women have killed themselves trying to terminate pregnancies. Some girls get abortions because they knew if their parents found out they would be beaten and why would you risk putting your child in a violent situation when you may not have the means to leave an abusive household. Some girls have been beaten to death by their parents just because they were found out they were having sex. Believe me, it is out there. There are crazy things in this world.

Having an abortion is a really private choice. If you are being honest that you just don't undertsnad and aren't trying to make people feel bad then it's good that you ask. It's hard to see things from someone elses perspective, especially when it doesn't make sense to you.
The way you have phrased your question is not a lateral comparison of an abortion however. Women don't stab themselves in the stomach to have an abortion so even though I think it's a woman's choice to have an abortion, yes, I would stop her if that is the way she chose to perform one. If she was dead set on stabbing herself in the stomach then I think that whether or not to have a child is probably the least of her concerns.
No woman ever walks away from having an abortion the same, women may act like they are fine but it still hurts.
Try to think of it this way-have you ever been faced with a choice and known that whatever you do there will be some good things and some bad things that come of it?
Women don't just go out and have abortions for fun. Often people don't understand the need for contraceptives or are too scared to ask about them an,d then are faced with should they bring a child into the world knowing they cannot raise them? Can they live with giving up a child for adoption?
Abortion may seem like throwing a life away or senseless killing but think how many children are thrown away, left to fend for herself, sent to orphanages- in other countries because they are born girls. No one is throwing away full term babies who have a chance at a good life.
Sometimes in life it is important to understand that you may not agree with what people are doing but it is important that they have a choice. Abortion, even though this may sound like an oxy-moron, may end up saving lives because what do young people do with babies they have in secret and don't know what to do next? They thrown them in the trash-full term babies, living and breathing. I'm not saying I'm going to go out and have abortions but would you rather people have the ability to stop something they are going to throw out in the end or just let them kill a real child?

I will tell you what a wise woman told me once. If you could assure me that all the children in the world- would not be harmed or abused and would have parents that care about them, then I would change my views on abortion.

I do not understand how some Christians can play god and take feritlity drugs and do invetro to create life- when you are doing the same thing with abortion- in your views- playing god by killing a potential life. Stabbing yourself in the stomach is harming a woman and a fetus, so that logic does not make sense and I would help her.

How can you as a woman decide what is right for me as a woman? This country is about freedom. I do not tell you what to believe. So why should you tell me what I should believe? Would you rather have women doing it with coathangers and dieing? Also, how can you or any other Christian put an animal to sleep and still not believe in abortion? This is just food for thought.

Okay someone stabbing themselves in an attempt to kill her baby is ONE thing and I would call for police and an ambulance because I honestly would think she is trying to kill HERSELF more then she is trying to kill the fetus growing inside her.

As for ABORTION, legal ABORTION done in a DOCTOR'S OFFICE is the WOMAN'S CHOICE!

Abortion is a very personal and sensitive subject. It is the woman's choice, no matter her age. I do think it is important that you should see councling before and after at least one visit to be sure you can cope with such a difficult choice.

People can say all you want about the "people out there they can't have a baby and want one, why can't you choose adoption" but there are lots of kids out in the foster system who do NOT have a family because some of these "childless" people that want a baby so bad are too selfish to adopt a child. They ONLY want a baby. I don't think it is fair for people to pass over a child that needs a home NOW because they want to be put on a waiting list for a BABY. THAT is NOT fair!

As for the birth control, I got pregnant with my baby girl while using condoms. One of my friends got pregnant using withdraw, again using condoms, and again using the pill. So birth control is not 100%.

OK I speak from experience. Some people just really aren't prepared to have a child and I know what you thinking use protection. It happened while I was using protection. S*hit isn't 100% effective so... whatever. I know it's a horrible thing to do especially to someone so helpless. Believe me this s*hit f*ucked me up for years, literally. Its something very hard to go through and I didn't want to, but my life would've taken a turn for the worst if I had this child. Sometimes there are sacrifices to be made. You can't always do the moral thing. Life isn't easy for everybody. I honestly feel that its OK if it is really a mistake, now for those girls who had like four or five abortions now that I am against. Those who just don't give a f*uck. I encountered those types when I went to the clinic and it killed me. I sometimes regret my choice but like I said life isn't easy. I would've probably been living in my moms house right now with nothing to be proud of if I had that baby. I want to say it's OK to have abortions but I don't support it for those who abuse the choice.

I think I'd take her to see a psychiatrist... if someone is going to stab themselves in the belly and not go about things in a humaine way then there is something wrong with them. There is nothing wrong with having an abortion if it is right for a certain person... its all about the person and their views and what they can live with. I am pro choice! And I will always be and I will NOT be ashamed of that fact... Did you know, The MS magazine is now publishing a list of names (some of them famous) who have had abortions... you'd be shocked at the women who have had abortions and who are finally okay with speaking up and saying so. Because it is their right~! Anyone can go to the MS website online and sign their petition... I did! Good luck with whatever you are really searching for in your questions...

Abortions are only legal up until a certain number of months...

A woman going into an abortion clinic and a wooman stabbing herself on the street are two entirely different situations... There is no way to equate them as equal as pertaining to the question you asked...

One is illegal because she is trying to not only abort but is also trying to commit suicide which is illegal..

The other is legal and has to be done within a certain time frame to be legal...

If you come up with a set of scenerios where the two woman's situations are equal, I would be able to answer your question but as it stands it's unanswerabe....

Im pro choice, but not past the first trimester.. you cant really compare that scenario with an actual abortion.. I mean like it or not nobody opinion or words will change how a person feels about it, stabbing yourself is self mutilation and anyone would step in and help... abortion is at least done by a Dr.

I am pro-choice, but only up to 12 weeks pregnancy, which is when the nervous system starts develloping and the baby starts being able to feel pain.
It can take over 4 weeks of pregnancy to figure out that you are pregnant, and then most women dont decide right away to get an abortion, as it is not an easy decision.

I personally don't like abortion. But if the situation calls for it, like if my 12 year old daughter got pregnant, then I would consider it heavily. Because I am not fond of the idea of her giving birth at the age of 13. If someone is raped, then I would not hold it against them if they got an abortion. But as for your question, I would stop her because it's obvious that she is not in the right frame of mind and needs some help. I don't like to see, under any situation, someone hurting themselves.
