When I interview a prospective employee, I look for a person who is clean, neat, acts responsibly, doesn't swear or smoke, and has a good attitude.

If I looked that person in the eye, I would want to see honesty.
He or she would need to be able to answer my questions without lying or exaggeration.

My questions would guide the prospective employee to demonstrate creativity and initiative, honesty, and ability to work with other employees. He or she needs to also demonstrate that he/she can do whatever job I want to fill (such as typing, filing, flipping burgers, has a truck driver's license, an engineer's degree and experience, woodworking skills, etc) or willingness to be taught the required skills. That person would also need to be either a US citizen or possess a green card.

When I hire someone, I expect that person to actually provide loyal service for me and my company in the hours they are on the job, take direction and advice, learn, and do their best work. In return, you should expect an employer to provide clean, safe working conditions, room for advancement, appropriate pay and benefits, and encouragement for good work.

Getting a job is a combination of having a good resume, being able to "sell" yourself in an interview by showing just the right amount of confidence, humility, enthusiasm and the ability to "think on your feet." It doesn't hurt to "know somebody" or have a connection either.

Being a little nervous is to be expected in an interview but you cannot be so nervous that you aren't able to answer questions intelligently and show off what you know. You can't come off as "over-confident" either or like you know more about a subject than the interviewer. That's a sure fire way to have the person who may have the final say on whether you get the job look at you as an arrogant ******.

Search the internet for common and not so common interview questions and practice.
