Much like the infamous "[Poop] or get off the pot", you have to make a decision one way or the other; you can;t be indecisive

It means don't stay in the middle of a decision, you will get run over. You have to make it to one side or another. :)

maybe they are a mugwump...that's a bird that sits on a fence with its mug on one side and wump on the other. they never get to the middle of the road.

It's about being a fencesitter, or indecisive. If you don't choose what you want for yourself, someone else is going to choose for you, and you're not going to have any say.

when you take a stand, must chose one side or they other. If you try to take both sides you lose. (will get run over)
