find a good play or concert. Local regional theaters are always good and don't cost an arm and a leg.

mini-golf or real golf if you are into it. something fun and active. plus you'll get to see what he is like in a competitive situation. a lot of guys put on a good show of being so sweet and tender but put them in a competitive situation and the truth comes out! i for one cannot abide a poor sport. if he is a gracious winner or loser, that is a very good sign!
also, see if he is more into the game than into you. just gives a little insight into his priorities.

If you really like each other mini golf, it's good to set up more physical contact and a fun time go out for ice cream afterwards.

depends on where you live, but do something fun! Go to the zoo or the museum, or a theme park. Brings out the kid in you!
