I have one son that infuriates me.. he is always sampling as we're setting the table..all the black olives are gone before anyone gets to the table.. but other than that, most everyone waits for the others to be seated, unless told it's alright to begin..
Some of the smaller children are still learning, but their parents seem to be stuck in a cloud of awe or some such thing..
We need more sit down dinners.. I've just bought a lovely (formal) dinning room set for that very purpose ..

Personally, I think it is rude.
It is a holiday after all, the family should all be present. The ones that were invited that is.

The family on my fathers side always invites all of the family to come have a Christmas dinner with them. We always have one at home, but we go there anyway, just to visit the family. Anyway, one time, we went to my father's sister's house, that's were everyone was going to gather, and she was going to cook. We arrived 30 minutes before we were suppossed to be there, and when we got there, they were beginning to clear the table. We thought it was really rude of them to eat without us, and they just left us to eat while they went outside or opened presents, etc. We didn't eat much and were left with clearing the table. They never invited us to any family gatherings for another 3 years, and then they decided to have another one. This time, they waited on us!

Yes, unless you're told ahead of time to fix your plate and sit down somewhere to eat it; as in you're not all at the same table and it's more buffet-style. But even if you're at separate tables, like you know how there's the "adults" table and the "kids'" table, it's nice to wait until everyone at least has their plate before you dive in. That's common courtesy. Especially at holiday times, when family gets together. In my family, we would all stand around together before the Thanksgiving/Christmas meal and my grandfather would say the blessing, and then we'd all get in line to fix our plates. Then when we sat down, we were free to start eating, since the prayer had already been said.

Yes, totally rude to eat until everyone at the table is served in a restaurant, and until seated at home.

Definitely Yes! It's a holiday, the whole point is to be with family! Not to mention the fact that other people spent time traveling to be with you, may have helped cook, brought food over... How can you ask this?

YES..it's rude. Many families that don't say a blessing any other time, do so on those holidays. No need to rush the food isn't going anywhere.

It is rude whenever you are having dinner and everyone is not seated and grace (blessing) has not been said and one begins to eat. that shows a lack of manners.

people or guest will not say anything in front of you, but in thier own mind and maybe talk to their friends and family how you behave or not having manners. What's wrong of waiting for few minutes till everybody is seated? good manners will go far and also discipline for yourself.

Yes it is rude
We say some form of "grace" before our family get together meals
so it would kinda obvious to eat before the saying

It is rude to begin eating before everyone is seated at every meal not just Yule (Christmas) or Mabon (thanksgiving).
