In conventional warfare, victory conditions are usually easily defined: the leaders of the defeated nation state are forced to sign articles of surrender and command their forces to cease hostilities. Even in the Cold War there was the clear goal of causing the fall of the Soviet Union.

Apparently the War on Terror is a new kind of war. What exactly are our goals and how will we know when they have been achieved?

Not really new. We had the same objectives in Vietnam. Just keep killing them. Body count to keep the score, but no real objectives that can be used to show that we are winning.

The war against an unspecified enemy to extend over an indefinite amount of time has several goals for the elite ("US goals" or "US interests" are terms used to imply that all citizens have the same goals as their "representatives") who ultimately are responsible for deciding upon warfare:

1) Secure any scarce resources and deprive them from others
2) Eliminate pesky entanglements with international law, such as those that were created to prevent another NAZI regime
3) Eliminate civil liberties to prevent dissenters (i.e., democracy) from questioning the gigantic and growing concentrations of power and wealth
4) Promote a unilateral fascist plan for world domination (i.e., the Wolfowitz Doctrine)
5) Provide a pretext for increased spending on an already gargantuan military budget

The war on terror will finally succeed when everyone is enslaved.

In a war like this there can be victory conditions. Like replace the government in Iran with someone that is not preaching and supporting jihad. If they can't get guns they can't shoot them. If they are told their government is friends with other governments it would all slow down. If all governments would crack down on terror it would almost go complete away. There will always be the nut case from time to time but nothing like it is now with governments like Iran supporting them.

This word "terrorists" is just a stronger word for organized crime. It is just cops and robbers. There is no WAR. It is how governments get their people to mass behind them. It is how Bush got us to follow him by using this strong word. It is how Iran is getting their people to follow the government.

What people in the USA don't seem to understand is these people are being brain washed by the hundred millions to think their God is returning and that the USA is the antichrist and the USA is trying to kill him before he gets back or complety stop him by killing everyone out so their god can't be born.

There are nut cases here in the USA the same why preaching that GOD is coming soon.. I hear it all the time and have all my life.

So being it is cops and robbers. When do you think the crime in the USA will stop and what are the conditions? Maybe stop breaking the law and it will stop. Stop killing americans and we will not stop forceing our ways on them so till we stop it will never end.

Very good question. Seeing as how it is not a conventional war, and WAR as defined has ceased, I wish there was an answer. All I know is we can't walk away now, without repeating the past.

The more advanced countries just invent their own terror and then identify it where they want it to be, so they can then attack to achieve their agendas.

You cant fight terror it is an idea "the war on terror" is just buzz words to keep the sheeples happy at home and not thinking too much.

It's like the war on drugs, meaningless. It just replaces the Cold War as an excuse to bully smaller nations

It's NOT about a "war on terror" or "fighting for freedoms". It's REALLY all about THIS!...

The muslims are reduced to a small band of outcasts who cannot blow anything else up. That is victory.
