I am a bit confused. Your comments please on good vs bad fat in a diet? My lady friend says I should have no fat at all, yet Tofu has some fat, and almost everything has some fat content. I don't want to live on lettuce alone. Any thoughts on the good vs bad fat issue? Thanks.

Dietary fats have been rated as bad or good on their effect on serum cholesterol levels. Generally, animal fats such as lard, tallow, and butter are considered bad and should be used sparingly. Unhydrogenated vegetable oils such as soya, canola, cottonseed, etc. are considered good. Partially hydrogenated oils, on the other hand, are worse than animal fats due to their trans fat content. This is a short synopsis of the effects of fats. One needs to remember that the caloric content of fat is 9 cak/gm versus 4 cal/gm for carbohydrates and proteins.

It is not the type of fat that is important it is how it is prepared. Cook every thing with low to medium heat. Do not fry. The rest is all moderation. Every thing in moderation. Don't deprive your self of anything. It will just catch up with you latter. Than you will binge.
