actually yes. For instance I worked on a cancer unit and I saw that many elder couples would die within months of each other. If the husband died the wife would pass of loneliness or "broken heart" even with the support of the children. It's weird but true.

The power of the mind is incredible. It used to be fairly common that when people reached a certain age that they felt they were no longer useful, they'd announce that it was their time to die, go to bed and never wake up again, even though there was nothing physically wrong with them. Still today, many people will just "give up" on life and "fade" quickly after certain traumatic events in their lives, like breaking a hip, losing a loved one, etc. They don't commit suicide, and there is no physical cause, but they just suddenly go down hill until they make themselves so sick that they can't recover. I've seen it happen lots of times. Once depression sets it, a lot of otherwise healthy people become inexplicably and deathly ill.

yes, i believe someone can die of a broken heart. Without love.. a person feels useless.. uneeded.. unwanted.. but with love.. a person feels a need to go on for the person that loves them. So yes, I believe a person can die of a broken heart.

Well..... technically... yes and no. Physically, if your heart were to shatter in you chest.. .I would say yes... is that likely.. no.
However, the mind is a very powerful thing. If you lose someone very close to you, a soulmate for example, you could put yourself into a deep state of depression causeing a lack of appetite, will to get out of bed, etc. These symptoms could cause severe damage to the body eventually causeing the break down of the immune system and.. if it lasts long enough untreated... could ultimately cause death.
I would have to vote yes on this one.

No. They can die of starvation or dehydration when they quit eating and drinking or they can die of self-injury. Such things usually start out as an immature little pity-party and get out of hand. If you're planning on it, don't jump out a window or off a roof, you might hurt someone you land on. Don't shoot yourself; the bullet might go through you and hurt someone else. Don't step in front of a bus; some fool might give their life trying to push you out of the way of the bus. Don't stick your head in a gas oven, the gas might accumilate and explode, harming others. Don't stick your finger in a light socket, someone might get electrocuted trying to pull you away from the current. Seppuku or "hari-kari" works, as does poison...hey, be our guest and clean up the gene pool - or get your head out your behind and get over it!

Not in younger people, we have a tendency to go on. But in older people, especially men, when their spouses go, within weeks or months they in turn die.
