My boyfriend and I have been dating for awhile. He hurt my feelings because he gave me a Shrek video for Christmas 2 yrs ago. I have not bought him anything since. I cannot figure out what he was thinking. Why would you buy your girlfriend a Shrek video? I was so hurt, I left it with his 4 yr old grandson. He buys me other nice things, but nothing romantic. I have a new safe, a new set of Chicago Cutlery, a new flourescent floor lamp. What is wrong with him? Christmas is approaching and I dread it. What to do?

Have you talked to him about this? Some people are just clueless about gifts.

If you think that's bad, once I was going out with a guy and he kept talking about how he got me a gift and how it's really special and he hoped I'd like it. Here I was thinking he'd bought me some expensive jewellery or something, and what was it? Well let's just say it's an adult-oriented device that I can't print here. I thanked him politely, but he could see by my expression that it was definitely the wrong thing to buy!

Maybe when your boyfriend is buying you gifts he is thinking of things that he would like. "Hmm... I like cutlery, maybe she likes cutlery too!" If I were you I'd tell him that I really appreciate the fact that he gets me a gift, but that because he's my boyfriend I'd rather have something more romantic. If he's really clueless, like some men are, you may have to spell out for him what romantic is. Lingere, jewellery, flowers, nice scented soaps. And if he has trouble with even that (which again, many men do), you might want to suggest gift certificates to a spa or something.

Just to emphasize, I don't think he's buying you gifts like this because he doesn't love you, I think he just doesn't know how to buy women gifts.

Well, in a way, its sounds like what my Dad does with gift giving. The gifts he's given you seem to be more practical gifts then romantic.. He doesn't like giving things that are just going to sit around collecting dust. As for the Shrek gift, he may have thought it was something you would enjoy. That's not just a kiddie movie, there are a lot of adult insenuindos there too.. Besides, remember in the end, it's the thought that counts.

have you ever watched it and did you take excitement in it? if so, then it easily is. Animation is a usually happening excitement that would not damage all and sundry. Its no longer going to offend. ideal social gathering; Disney videos/products are accrued through a lot of human beings of many a lengthy time period in various international locations. Shrek is a humorous and romantic movie with a magnificent love tale. He might want to no longer have chosen wisely, yet I doubt there develop into any malice purpose there. in simple terms be greatful he offered you some thing.

Cutlery and a floor lamp? This poor guy is so clueless, he could have his own sitcom. You poor thing! Unfortunately, it sounds as though you'll have to have a little sit-down and spell it out. Tell him how much it would mean to you to get romantic gifts, and don't forget to use specific examples. Good luck!

you cant go wrong with a gift card....but its too impersonal, you guys should go shopping together. or .....in a little piece of paper each wright down what you would like for christmas (like a wish list) agree first on the value of the item ej. $40-$50 no more no less....cromble the little peices of paper dont mix'em you go first or who ever...put your little papers in a hat..bowl bag..whatever have him pick out ONE little piece of paper and only him can know what it is that he will have to get you AS SOON AS YOURE DONE throw away the rest of the little papers. then he will do the same ONLY you will know what to get him outta that wish list, that way YOU get what you want and so will he....hope this helps, and if you have read all this THANK YOU!

maybe he just meant for it to be kinda funny, and men don't usually get too romantic unless you help them out a little. just forget about the shrek thing and talk to him about how you didn't really like it and that it hurt your feelings. guys like it when you're honest with them and don't play games.

Realize he is actually investing in you and investing in your relationship.

HOWEVER, based on my experience, you are just his best diversion because he is too lazy to find another. You need to re-evaluate your relationship together. I recommend each of you take a Myers-Briggs Personality Inventory and have yourselves evaluated by a professional psychologist-together!
