Hello,
You shouldn't have to upgrade your Norton software, but you should keep it updated. We normally don't recommend Norton, because it takes up alot of CPU cycle time.

Anyway, upgrading isn't as important as keeping your software updated. Plus you safe yourself a hassel.

First, you should get rid of ME because Microsoft no longer supports ME. If your version of ME is legit, then all you would need to do is purchase Windows XP Upgrade, approx $90. With XP, all of the essentials are there: virus scan, firewall, spyware. Of course, it is always recommended that you get additional protection, i.e. Norton, McAfee.

One thing I've come to find out is that shared applications sometimes gives more grief than pleasure. Any short-cuts you attempt will result in the same, if not worse. So, try getting your OS up to date and everything else will fall in place.

By-the-way, I loved ME when I had it, so if you choose not to upgrade, I can understand why. Just remember: ME is no longer supported, and most software packages may no longer work with ME as the driving force of your computer.

I have XP and foolishly tried to upgrade to Norton 2006. I was unable to install it. With the help of Raj in tech support and his broken english, I was successful at totally screwing up my computer. I am now using AVG antivirus. They have a free trial if you want to try them out. I wouldn't recommend Norton to anyone.

Go get the AV from Computer Associates, "ca"

Better than Norton, better rated, and only about $40 at Target.

Why bother? The only thing Norton ever did was slow down my PC. I now use AVG Free and have no troubles.
