The underhand serve is usually used only if you can't get the overhand serve in, try to learn to serve overhand.
Try to start with a float serve, because I think it is easiest to learn. Hit the ball slightly above center, with no wrist snap. Try to drive your hand hard into the ball. A really good float serve doesn't have much spin, but "knuckles" or moves erratically as it approaches the receiver. You don't have to get a float serve deep to win your points. Serves that are just over the net can be very effective.

The best serve is the hard (meaning fast) floater just over the net. Better than jump serve and top spin serve. Also, side spin serve is very good too but passers can pick up on that after a while. Master the hard floater.

For right handers:

1) Left foot slightly forward.
2) Your weight should be on your right foot.
3) Volleyball is in left hand.
4) Your right hand reaches behind you.
5) Look and aim approximately 2 metres above the net.
6) With your left hand and arm, toss the ball about 1-2 feet above your head. 1-2 feet in front of your body.
7) As you step with your left foot:
i) transfer your weight from your right foot to your left foot
ii) swing with your right hand towards the volleyball.
iii) Follow through with your right hand and your right arm should be fully extended as you make contact.

I recommend watching serving videos on youtube.

If you do underhand hold it in one hand and with your otherhand have your fist facing straight at the ball no i mean so your wrist is facing the net and then hit it and it will be deadly and overhand first start with the ball hitting the hard part of your and swing all the way through and it will be deadly

i know that i overhand serve and i think that its the most effective. all you have to do is get in the right stance then throw the ball up in front of your serving hand. then you hit the ball right in the middle. don't worry if you can't get it at first all you have to do is practice.
