before you you buy the collar watch a T.V. show on cable called
DOG WHISPER. It is a really good show about dog training and you might learn something that you maybe doing wrong and blaming the dog. If you watch the show you will understand that this is not a personal attack.

A shock collar is not a training method, but ultimate aversion therapy. I can not think of any reason to put a shock collar on a three month old puppy. That is misdemeanor animal cruelty in the Bay Area. To those who say "it's just a dog, people ", ESAD.

Yes 3 months is way to young.
All training at that age needs to be on a "lets play" fun base because the puppy is yet to develop the cognitive skills to understand a correction properly.
You really need to be trained on how to use an e-collar first anyways.
The e-collar is a wonderful training tool in the hands of someone that is well versed in it's use, but in the hands of a novas with no knowledge of how to use one more damage will be done than good.

For all who would say "oh how barbaric" and 'it is just to cruel" this little quote is especially for you

"there is a principle which is a bar against all information, which is proof against all arguments and which cannot fail to keep a man in everlasting ignorance --- that principle is contempt prior to investigation."
Herbert Spencer

Shock collars will only teach a dog to obey as long as they are wearing the collar. Positive reinforcement is much more effective and lasting. And yes, 3 months is too early.

It isn't necessary to use a shock on a baby dog. The point of the collar is for a dog who will not obey the training he has been taught. It is a reinforcement training collar. I feel they are very cruel and we should never use one on a dog< I don't see that they do any good> they hurt the dog for sure if that's the aim in mind. Train your puppy with love and a choke collar, the collar when jerked or shaken will scare the devil out of him when he disobeys. It isn't meant to choke him its to scare him with the noise. The dog is simple to train its the human who can't take the time and the patience to train the dog with kindness. No need to ever hurt a dog when teaching them they are pro bally smarter than their owner in most cases. To bad they are smaller and helpless. Good luck < that's to the dog>......

ITS JUST A DOG, PEOPLE.

Anyway, it depends on the dog. Most breeds probably aren't large enough to be able to handle a shock collar at 3 months. At that age, there are other ways to train your dog. Potches on the rear end are good training tools.

I agree with the others who have said not to use the shock collar. It's just cruel and not a good form of teaching. If we don't use it on humans, why on an animal? All of us respond to positive reinforcement. And there are so many other ways to train a dog/animal. If Cesar Milan can do it in a few seconds, so can you. I recommend any of his books or just check out his show on NG. Also, dogs cannot rationalize (especially at that age) and say to theirselves, "You know, I really shouldn't pee there...maybe I should wait until he lets me outside." They are like children. You need to work with your puppy with positive reinforcement. Take your puppy outside...when he goes, he gets a treat; however you want to do it. We do it with kids and m&m's or smarties when they use the toilet...same idea.

And it's not "just a dog." It's an animal that feels pain just like the rest of us, and who ultimately wants to please you. And he will if you work with him and give him the best of you. Wishing you good luck!

You don't need a shock collar for basic training.

A dog should be trained on how to eat, walk with you, not to bark, potty training and sleep on its place etc. You can teach anything to your puppy, dogs get trained easily with some good instructions. If you want some good training tips visit https://tr.im/uPp6S

If properly trained, they should also understand whistle and gesture equivalents for all the relevant commands, e.g. short whistle or finger raised sit, long whistle or flat hand lay down, and so on.

It's important that they also get gestures and whistles as voice may not be sufficient over long distances and under certain circumstances.
