I was recently diagnosed with adhd and for some reason my doctors don't want to put me on stimulant drugs. I think its really a personal issue to me. But anyway, if time passes and my doctor doesn't want to put me on stimualnts even though I'm struggling with the symptoms, what should I do because its not that easy to switch doctors right now because of my insurance situation.

Please help, I really don't know what to do!!

It's really not the doctor's decision, ultamitly, what happens to you and your meds. I have ADD / ADHD (both) and I take Focalin XR. I am 13 years old, so it really depends on how old you are. If you really feel strongly talk to (or have your parents talk to if you are a minor) the doctor. Stimulant drugs are only prescribed when ADHD interferes with functioning, so just explain to your doctor why this is stopping your functioning.

You don't need to switch doctors, you just need to explain more to your doctor and tell them what you feel, they are there to help you!

Good Luck!

Ask for a referral to a psychiatrist. Even if your primary care doctor doesn't want to prescribe a medication, they are not really experts. Almost every insurance company will allow a consultation with a specialist once you've been diagnosed with a condition. The psychiatrist may be willing to offer you a medication that can help you gain better control over the ADHD.
