ok.. so like i used to cut myself.. (more like needle) but i stoped like 2 years ago.. and just yesterday i found out one of my good friends started to cut himself. at first i thought it was a rumor but when i looked at his arm i saw all the slashes on his arm. Every one is mad at him and calling him stupid. They ask why and he wont answer. the only answer he'll give us is "think of it as art" but damn. that was my excuse... I can't just tell him.. stop... i wont call him stupid and i wont ask why... I don't know what to do. I know its not right.. The only reason i stoped cutting myself is because life just got better. I realized life can actually be worth living for. But no one showed me and no one talked to me. No one knew me. I wore long sleeves all through out summer.. Now i look at him and i don't know what to do to make him stop. I tell everyone else "just let him live his life. Its his choice.. he'll stop eventually"

but i don't know if i can believe myself. He's different.

You could start by telling him what you told us, sometimes it helps to know that you are not alone in your feelings of pain and sorrow. But you really do need to talk to an adult at the school if the cutting continues, he may need more help than you can give him or that he can give himself. Lets face it, he really could die one time if no one helps him.

ok, my best friend was a cutter. Now after a history of blood, drugs, guns, homelessness, and medications, he's off the pills (almost 10 years now), quit the drugs, destroyed the guns, got a good job, and is now happily married, owns a house and is working on his first kid. My friend grew out of it, I can only hope yours does as well. The thing to remember is that cutters usually cut when their emotions/lack thereof get to the point where the only way to make sense of it is to turn to something they can understand. Cutting is a way to make something shapeless and ungraspable into something corporeal and visceral; skin, blood, pain. Very simple and easy to understand. It's why people prefer "Dumb ***" to "Shakespeare", it'll get you through the weekend, but it won't get you through life. Your friend needs to find some other coping strategies that pull him out of his "oh, me" complex and let him focus and deal with the real issues - and one of those coping stratagies, I'm afraid is likely to be you. While he's finding some meaning and future in his life, you may well be the one who gets to hear all about it. Just remember to stay positive whilst he's wearing his pained heart on his sleave.

You need to tell the school counselor or the school social worker. Your friend has a very serious mental health problem if he is cutting himself.

This is a serious problem. He needs help!
He needs to let his pain out another way. He needs on meds. Can you talk to a school counselor about it?

i know what your'e going through. i know you've probably heard this 100000 times, but you need to tell someone about it. one of my friends used to cut and once she lost so much blood she passed out && her parents found her and she had to go to the hospital.
if that happened to your friend, and he didn't have medical care asap, he might not live.
if you tell someone now, then he can get help for it.

Tell him why you stop. Don't insist that he does, but tell him things will get better when it occurs.
