ok boyscout, i hope you're ready to be thrown in the mud and treated like a little baby with an abusive father for a few weeks. You can love war all you want. Study it and go to college and study it as a second major. ThHEN join the marines and go to the Academy and become an officer. That way you can be trained in the art of war and eventually become a commander on the field. I think that would be your best bet.

One thing I learned about the military is that if you join right out of highschool, you don't have enough time to grow up just that little bit that you need. I joined to early and got into trouble because i was too hard-headed to follow the rules. If I were to leave right now(6 years later) I would be 110% ready and dedicated. Don't be so fired up just yet, and talk to as many marines as you can who've been in and out of the front lines. talk to them about what it's like to have bombs going off in front of you and bullets flying all around you. Prepare yourself for death and give 100% of your life to the marine corps. prepare yourself to go home with a missing limb. You should be ok with all of that before you consider leaving for the corps. You might be all gung-ho now, but when you get out there and start watching your new buddies drop to the ground with fountains of blood and 8 inch holes in their chests and heads, you'll be crying for your mama. Oh, and by the way, to be a marine you HAVE to be crazy.

Goodluck, God speed, and semper fidelis

Stop watching movies. If you say that in boot camp they will kick the S%$@ out of you. Do you think it is cool to see your friends bleed to death? War sucks!!! being a marine is more then just being some illiterate killing machine. If you want to serve your nations oldest and most decorated service. 1 get into shape 2 study hard in school. All the cool MOS's take high scores. for example 0321 recon marine you need a high asvab score to qualify. don't worry about the motto. you will learn it in boot camp.

War is not what you think. All those who truly think they can handle War almost always get carried out by someone who does not want to be there. Not cause they got shot but cause of PTSD (post traumatic stress syndrome). Which more marines suffer from then any other branch. They have seen even less action in the years then the Army. (3rd infantry div. lead the way into Iraq). Good job choosing military but I recommend you chose a job that will teach you something for when you get out of the military. Not much need for an infantry man or tank driver in the real world. Go into Signal Communications or Medical. Feel free to ask me anything you want. Email me. I will let you know what it all is really like. One soldier to a future one.

motto: semper fi (always faithful)

song: From the halls of montezuma....

But do, please, rethink that whole "thriving on war" thing...in two years you'll probably be serving in peace time and that might turn out to be a bit boring. Why don't you concentrate on your studies, then hit college for a degree in law enforcement then find a job with a SWAT team. PS: not crazy. If you can keep your head while those around you are losing theirs, well...law enforcement might be the place for you. Good luck

First, calm down.

The motto is Semper Fidelis. The Marine Corps Hymn is too long to write but look here...http://www.google.com/search?hl=en&hs=smI&client=firefox-a&rls=org.mozilla:en-US:official_s&sa=X&oi=spell&resnum=0&ct=result&cd=1&q=marine+corps+hymn&spell=1

Legally blonde is half right, going to college isnt a bad idea. But don't count on it being peace time in 2 years. North Korea, Iran, the Congo, Somalia etc.. there will always be something. Even if there isnt, being a Marine will prepare you for the rest of your life.

The Marines Cadence (1st stanza)

From the Halls of Montezuma to the shores of Tripoli
We fight our country's battles on the land as on the sea.
First to fight for right and freedom and to keep our honor clean,
We are proud to claim the title of United States Marines.

My advice is to stay in shape, play a competetive sport or two or at least work out. If there is a NJROTC nearby join it now. Even if you have to change schools, they have to let you so you can participate in the program. If you get at least two years in it, you get a rank. Contact a marine recruiter early in your senior year. Most of them have planned monthy activities for the kids waiting to mep out, like mountain hiking and stuff. Its actually a lot of fun at that point so don't miss out on it.

"I don't fear death."

Oh really?!

Imagine your out on a mission it's so freakin dark you can't see your hand in front of your face your walking in the bush it's very very very quiet and all of a sudden you step on something and there's a *click*.......

If you move one inch kid you'll be blown into a thousands little pieces they'll be picking up what's left of you and sending it back to Mom in a ziplock bag still unafraid to die ? oh it gets better you and your men hear the enemy approaching if they see you they'll shoot you dead and remember you still can't move.

"I love war i thrive on it "

Grow up kid you don't know the first thing about it nobody loves war it's hell on earth it's death and destruction and blood lots of it.
