If you know the music, your dad is not asking too much of you to have you play. He IS being unfair to everyone else if you play the concert without attending any rehearsals. Everyone else is working hard at playing together. Adding a part during the concert that hasn't been heard before can throw the other musicians off (not to mention creating resentment), even if you play it perfectly. Playing with the university band will be a great experience for you, but only if you find a way to attend some rehearsals. As conductor and father, your dad will have the final say, but if you don't rehearse, you should not perform. That is only appropriate when a professional is asked to fill in.

Wow only in eighth grade and playing in a university concert band? Thats great. If I were your dad I would wanna show you too. Its obvious that your dad is really proud of you. I'm sure it wouldn't hurt for you to play in the concert. You said you know all of the parts anyway. When I was your age, my dad never came to any of my concerts and that really hurt. I play the clarinet. Do this for your dad its not much to ask of you. who knows? it may come in handy when you want to ask him a favor. lol

No. If he were not the conductor it would be almost as important. Just knowing the music is not enough. playing in unison with a group through rehersal is impotant for the syncopation of the group. Arrange your schedule to make it.
Conductors come & go. Your Father is your forever. Especially a musical Father.

No. He is trying to broaden your horizons and provide you with a future. Find a way to get to the rehearsals, as your dad isn't the only person counting on you, the entire band is!

You're in the band, right? Why can't you get to rehersal?
I think if you're a member of the band, you should play.
