Yes! Doesn't anyone know where to stop your car for a stop sign, or a light? I think it is intimidation, I'm gonna hit you if you do not get out of the intersection now, or maybe it's so you can be further along in your plans to go across out of turn.
I can't count how many times I almost got hit today, I did not go four miles. And three of the near misses were in a hospital parking lot! And I thought I was the aggressive driver! How wrong!
I remember, with great fondness, back when a center line meant other drivers would not be in your lane! It is hard to steer properly, with one hand busy with the cell phone!
And never, ever, pull into an intersection just because your traffic light turned green. If you do, you have a death wish. I was in line first, on a state highway, and watched the light turn green. Six cars+ in the opposing turn lane went through on a red, that did not include the three or four that went through on yellow. They took up @ half the time of the green light for the opposing lanes. And oh, boy, what a big rush they must have been in, the turn is into a subdivision, with no other outlet. They were nearly home.
There is a lot of construction between my house and work, a 20 minute drive often turns into a 45 + minute drive. I understand the frustration, I am tired of it, too. But why tailgate me, when there is a line of traffic ahead of me? I can't go any faster!
There has been a rash of injuries and deaths in this area, drivers hitting construction workers. The reduced speed limits are being strictly enforced, speed traps and Police and Sheriff department cars everywhere! . Yet, if someone goes the speed limit, to avoid a pricey ticket, and never mind the safety of the workers, they are tailgated, and when there is a break, they almost take someone's rear bumper trying to go around.
I've been driving long distances to work and back for 20 years, and it just gets worse, and worse.
And if I never see another SUV on my bumper, it will still be too soon.
I was coming home one night, on interstate highway, on a long hill down. A trucker, a full sized rig, was so close to my bumper, I could read the make o the truck, I do not exagerate. And he stayed there. I could not go faster, there were cars in front of me. Finally the traffic in my lane cleared, and I sped up. Still on my bumper. I gunned it out ahead, got in the other lane, and pulled out my cell phone, then went back in front of him. Made like I was dialing, and put it up to my ear. He backed, and backed off. Ha, I did not own a cell phone then, it was my check book! But that was how close he was, enough to see my arm come up to my ear, on a dark interstate. I went out in the other lane again, should have seen the look on his face. The first trip out ahead of him, I was doing 85, in a 55 speed zone. Scary, but it was either that, or die.
And I used to see lots of law enforcement out there, speed traps, or just driving, watching for weirdos. Not anymore, and those I see are breaking the law, too. I pulled into the construction zone the other night, county police behind me in line, I looked up, and he was gone, had to be doing almost 50 in a 35. No lights, no siren. He was still ahead of me, all 4 stop lights. He was not on a call! Great role model, and the sad part was, there were a bunch of cars following him, at the same speed. I counted them as they passed me. Twelve.
So people, if you see a red pontiac 6- cyllinder grand am 2-door, with a rear spoiler, and a woman driving it, and you are driving a SUV, stay the you know what off my bumper! Boy, I am glad I bought those 6 cylinders, they have saved my middle aged backside many, many times. I used to be able to intimidate people with that roaring pontiac engine. Not anymore, might as well be driving a Yugo. Did I mention it is a red pontiac?
Thanks for your question. I doubt anything I have said thus far will make a difference. I had a little life change one rainey night, coming home on that insterstate. There were white sheets covering bodies, 3 of them, in the other lanes, clearly had been ejected from a vehicle.. People were not even slowing, and a big truck almost caused me to go into the lane, and take out a policeman, and hit them again. I have been much more careful, after that.
Peace, and ya'all be careful out there.

it's not the driving. it's the stuff the drivers are doing APART from driving. like shaving, reading, smoking, talking on the phone, applying make-up, drinking coffee, having sex, grilling on a mini-hibachi, playing video games, inflating their weekend partners, whatever. driving is now a secondary concern, the necessary evil that must be done while we entertain ourselves in our vehicles. the bigger the city, the more people you come across.
