Fill a disposable pie plate with water and a few tablespoons of dish washing liquid.Place a clip on light or a small flexible desk lamp about 1 to 1 1/2 feet above it.The fleas will jump toward the heat of the light, fall in the pan and get stuck in the soap.Just change the water/soap mixture as often as needed.(and obviously in your case with a crawling baby-in a separate room or when the baby is in bed)-and vacuum, vacuum, vacuum. This really works!I have done it.

My house got infested earlier this year and I found a great organic way to get rid of fleas on several websites.

Was all textile fabrics that have been on the ground (blankets and such) in soapy water.

Sprinkle borax on any fabric item like beds, furniture and carpets. Borax causes fleas in all stages to rapidly dehydrate and kills them. Let it sit on the surfaces for 2 hours and then vacuum extremely well. Before vacuuming, install a new vacuum bag and then toss the bag into the outside trash as soon as you are done with the vacuuming.

Any pets you have should be immediatly put on Frontline- preferably before you treat the house. Please do not use the stuff from the grocery stores because this has caused neurological issues and even death in the past.

The trick of using dishwashing liquid works, but most of the folks recommending it are forgetting one element: In the dish of soapy water, place a lit candle in the middle. The fleas will be attracted to the flame, jump toward it, and end-up in the drink! Make sure you use a TALL candle and a wide dish, like a large pie plate.
This was a method the old '49er's used in the gold country of California.

you can call a pest control service. Tell them you have a small child and they can use a product that is safe for him/her. Make sure you have your yard treated as well, or you may be wasting your money. You can try some do-it-yourself remedies, but you will only mask your problem for a little while. Some ot those products only kill the fleas, and not the eggs or larvae.

Hi
The best thing you can do to eradict the fleas is to buy some flea bombs from the supermarket.(Yes it is chemical),but very safe.Just set these off in your home when you are going out for a couple of hours and you will be rid of the pesky things.Make sure you treat your dog with ADVANTAGE to make sure no more come in.Trust me as safe as you will get.I once acidentally set one off in the kitchen right under my budgie cage and left. When I came home the budgie was fine.

Fleas drown pretty easily and can be vacuumed up. I'd say shampoo your carpet--- wetting it pretty good, then maybe use a wet/dry vac to suck up the water and dry the floor. You can even just dry vacuum them up, but you have to dispose of everything outside (put the vacuum bag in a trash bag first and tie it up). I think the drowning method would probably be the easiest non chemical thing to do.

I assume you have pets? Get the animal(s) (dog?) on Frontline ASAP (kills adults, larvae & eggs) and bomb the house twice about 3 weeks apart (to kill what is in the house with the first dose, and what hatches afterwards with the second dose - the flea lifecycle is about 3 weeks). Once you get them killed and get your pet controlled, you shouldn't have any more problems in the house. (Frontline kills all stages of fleas, but it won't kill the ones in the animals bedding, etc., so once you clean out the house, the animal won't be bringing any more inside and you should be home free).

I put dishes of water with a few drops of dishsoap next to nightlights in each room. In the morning they are filled with drowned fleas. Also put mothballs in your vaccuum or when you do the carpet, you are just helping the fleas find each other to breed. (Mothballs kill fleas) It took a few days to knock them down, but we are not eaten up by fleas anymore.

THERE IS AN OLD TRICK OF PUTTING JOY DISH WASHING LIQUID IN A BOWL OF HOT WATER AND SET ON THE FLOOR BY MORNING IT WILL BE FULL OF FLEAS BUT IT DOES NOT GET RID OF THEM THE BEST ADVICE IS CALL A PEST CONTROL THEY GUARANTEE TO GET RID OF THEM PLUS THEY USE STUFF THAT IS SAFE FOR THE FAMILY. IN THE LONG RUN THIS WILL BE CHEAPER THAN TRYING TO GET RID OF THEM YOURSELF
