Firstly, Laika was a female. Secondly it was 50 years ago or so and she is dead alright. Thirdly, no, they did not cruelly kill her.

Laika died a few hours after launch from stress and overheating, likely due to a malfunction in the thermal control system. The true cause of her death was not made public until decades after the flight. Some former Soviet scientists have since expressed regret that Laika was allowed to die.

Cruel, it certainly was. The Soviet Union planned ahead of time for Laika's demise, however, they were unsure how. They installed cameras to see what would happen....and they saw it.
I have an old National Geographic Magazine from more than 20 yrs ago where you can see her little deformed body..what she must've gone through.....sad.

They were going to send the other two mutts they picked up along the side of the road as well, but gave up on that idea, even though they had already been trained along side Laika...too much negative feedback.

Laika (which became a woman of indeterminite breeding) probable died as a effect of the stresses of area flight in spite of the indisputable fact that the dogs and the pill burned up in the time of re-get admission to. Laika became doomed to die from the start, a shown reality that outraged a lot of human beings at the same time as note were given out.
