No. That would be like sending lambs to the slaughter. Those people are not trained the way soldiers are. Have you gone mad?
The only solution is to bring our troops out of Iraq altogether.

There are many benefits to having an all volunteer army. The quality of soldiers we have today have resulted in the lowest desertion rates in history and extreme efficiency in combat, so much so that no force will go toe to toe with the US, and they must resort to the targeting of civilians. Having been a commander, I want as few distractions in the battlefield as possible. Some bad people do seep in through the military screening process and cause world wide headlines like the incidents at Abu Ghraib and others we have all heard about. The incorporation of convicts into the armed services again would only increase those incidents. I vote for keeping the convicts out and continuing with the all volunteer force.

What... so they can team up with the same people who caused 9/11? Your idea has some value but the mentality of prisoners that have been condemned is not to be trusted. As well as there is not enough civilians of that caliber to replace our troops.
Those innocent soldiers 'chose' to serve our country, I know because my husband is one of them and has been for the last 17 years, unlike a prisoner who has already been condemned. Our soldiers also take 'pride' in surviving our county- keeping war away from our borders- by dealing with it before it reaches our shores.
No one wants to die but those who sign up for any protetcive service(including police, firemen, ect.) know it is a viable fact.
I wonder if anyone would consider doing that for the innocent police and fireman who get killed in the line of duty everyday...why is that so different? Because the fighting isn't on US soil.
Sorry if I offend you in any way- that is not my intent but I am tired of explaining to my four children why the differences in politics towards the soldiers in Iraq or anywhere else and the police and firemen that also fight for our safety everyday.

Have U ever seen the film 'The Dirty Dozen' with Lee Marvin and Telly Savalas, it is about condemned prisoners who are given a chance to fight for their country and if they come through their record would be wiped clean...it sounds plausable and if the convicts agree then there records have to be wiped clean. Keep the paedophiles, rapists locked up. They have diseased minds.
Sending in the murderers would be a solution to the US and the UK losing more troops.

Ever seen the Dirty Dozen? With Lee Marvin? Good movie. I believe a prisoner should be given a chance to redeem him/her self by going there. Of course they get the tuff assignments. During late '60s judges in many different courts were giving options during sentencing.. Go due this time or join the Army. Lots went into the service.

If by "they" you're referring to Bush and his lot, then sure, why not? That's really stupid. Do you not think the condemned would attempt to join with the terrorists?

Ummm...I don't believe that would work, reasoning being why they're in prison to begin with. Quote I just recieved..."They don't do sh*t, why do you think they would over there?"
