I was just flipping around and landed on "Sex in the City" on TBS. The voice over said that one of the characters was being harassed by a sandwich--it was a person in a hotdog suit. Are hotdogs sandwiches? I must know... :-D

A hotdog by itself is just a piece of meat.
A hotdog in a bun is a sandwich - by definition.
Basically anything eaten with bread is a sandwich.
1. Item between 2 slices of bread.
2. Item inside a split bun or roll.
3. Item on a slice of bread (open-faced)

That is a fabulous question. Let us consider the definition of a sandwich. (noun 1. two or more slices of bread or the like with a layer of meat, fish, cheese, etc., between each pair).
A hot-dog is technically just the meat part (when I say meat, I do so with caution and hopefulness). So, no, a hot dog is not a sandwich. Now if it is a hot-dog w/ a bun, then it is most certainly a sandwich.

A hotdog is not a sandwich. A hotdog within a bun is sandwich that often contains condiments, as well!
