No. Only you know what kind of lifestyle you have and personality and energy level. You need to check out all the breeds and be honest about what YOU are willing to bring to the relationship. Some dogs require alot more from their owners in order to be well adjusted and not end up with issues (like digging, biting, chewing, almost all of which are results of poor leadership skills or lazy owners). Dogs are like people, some are laid back and others are high-maintenance. Be honest about what you are willing to do on a DAILY basis. As for me and mine, we have a german shepherd. They shed like the dickens, year round, but they are great animals... smart, friendly, quiet, unobtrusive, but ready to go all day long (if need be) at the sound of the doorknob. Ours has even won over my mother, who has never cared for animals, ESPECIALLY in the house.

I have found that rescue dogs are brill, all any dog wants is a loving owner and they can be the best dog in the world, whether pure bread or mongrel. If you are talking about buying a dog then ask yourself many questions, big or small, how much space do you have, how much time do you have to groom and exercise. With a pure breed you have an idea of temperament and size, with a mongrel its usually pot luck.Don't forget the cost, its an ongoing commitment

RESCUE DOGS!!!! The best kinds of dogs are rescue dogs!! What breed you get will depend on your lifestyle and what you want from the dog and can give back. The staff at the rescue organization will be able to match you up with the perfect pooch! Go to your local animal shelter!!!

Kayla, I have a one year old Newfoundland male puppy. He is the absolute greatest!!! He's smart, funny, cuddly and looks like a baby bear. He has the best personality of any dog I have ever met! He's calm and extremely gentle. They only live for 8-10 years so I am enjoying every minute I have with him.

It really depends on the kind of dog. Do you just want it to be cute and playful? Or a hunting dog? Or...etc. I think it helps to decide what kind of dog you like (big, small, etc) so you can decide the best of each category.

If you are not familiar with different breeds, I would suggest going to the animal shelters and look at the dogs there. See which one you like as to looks and whether they are friendly or not. Ask to spend time with some of the dogs. I am sure you will find one that will catch your eye.

Golden retrievers are very popular because they're known to be very docile and friendly, as well as easy to take care of. However, because of their friendliness, they don't make good watchdogs. A boxer makes a faithful companion, and makes a good watchdog; they're very playful, but may be too much for small children. The Labrador Retriever is the most popular in both the U.S. and UK; they're friendly, intelligent, energetic and good-natured as well as fast-learning.
These are just some of the popular breeds. Pick the breed you feel most comfortable with.

There is no one set breed that is best for everyone. I personally like retrievers but they are high energy and you have to be very active to keep them happy and healthy. It depends on what you are looking for in a dog, your lifestyle, your personality, etc. Check out www.dogbreedinfo.com, they have a breed selector quiz that may be helpful to you.
