It is very simple:
We dont want you to run our World, and that my friend is your goal.

Do you live in the United States? If so, you might have noticed that the last 10 years has seen a rise in the amount of power grabbing by right-wing christians, and an attempt to weaken or eliminate the separation of church and state. If the U.S. becomes a theocracy then atheists will be hurt the most, though I think the entire world will suffer.
I get along fine with moderate and liberal christians who support the separation of church and state. I would not be spending time here if all christians did.

Hey man take a chill pill. It works both ways. When you've been using this site for a while you will see that Christians, and other religions can also be abusive towards unbelievers. It depends on the individual person, you get good and bad in all walks of life dint you. Please don't class ALL unbelievers as trouble makers.
As for the reason of being on here, i wish to learn about different religions. I'm interested in people and about life. Its an open site for anyone to use should they wish, and it would be boring i think if this section was only used by the religious. Also people can be spiritual without being religious.

I am not a Christian, atheist, Muslim or any other labeled faith. I believe in being part of a higher energy and consciousness is the goal of most religions. Unfortunately, most people will not think for themselves. They jump into faith blindly....(I wish I could)....I am not anti-Christian. I think christ was a very smart man. I also think that the bible is a great book with many awesome lessons. I don't think there is a true atheist alive on this planet.. I understand how people have resentment or grudges towards Christians, or any other groups of thinking and faith for that matter. When you choose to label yourself as something, get ready for stereotyping, hatred, resentment etc;etc;etc;.....It only takes 1 bad apple to ruin a bunch. Take the 911 incident for that matter. I would like for the world to listen to John Lennon's IMAGINE with true openness

That's a very good and thoughtful question. As an atheist, I'll try to answer it thoughtfully also. I think that first and foremost, we are concerned and frustrated by how much religion has influenced current affairs. Particularly our government, which is headed by a born-again Christian, and Islamofacism, which is spearheaded by religious fundamentalists of another kind. We don't live in a vacuum, so of course it is necessary for us to be concerned with religion. Second, the separation of church and state that is so vital to our country, is constantly threatened. There are always religious people trying to ban certain books (e.g. Harry Potter) or get certain well-founded ideas deleted (e.g. evolution). So while I agree with you that it's ridiculous for an atheist to come here to bash religious people, I hope you realize that our being informed about and interested in religion and religious folks is absolutely necessary. It's kind of like we're at war with you, just as you're at war with us. But, first and foremost, we are fellow Americans, so it's best to keep it a war of words and ideas. You know the old saying, "keep your friends close and your enemies even closer".

I think you need to remember there are *a lot* of Christians (and other religions) trying to impose their views on other people. Some of these views are straight out of Sunday school in their sophistication so I can understand the average persons resentment toward Christians (and others) for this.
That said, I do find the 'atheists' (technically I'm one) to be amazingly arrogant and often ignorant in their posts. I bring this up only because they claim some sort of intellectual supremacy over people who follow a religion.
That is clearly not the case.

For the same reason Christians are/do,whatever.I'm an atheist,I guess.I don't like being one,but I can't find a reason to believe in a supreme deity.I'm trying.I even have a question about it.I have no faith and there is no logical reason to believe in anything.I think that it's ok to share beliefs if that is what one wants, but there is too much bashing on both sides.Sometimes I read the questions just to see if I can get someone's perspective on things, but usually it is a waste of time. The real reason is it's addictive, for whatever reason.

I don't come to this site to discuss religion, as I have been firm in my beliefs for over 30 years. I highly doubt that anything will cause me to change those beliefs.
I come here to get an insight into human nature. I don't know why at this point in my life I decided to do this. It just sort of happened that way. I realize that I could do this just as easily in the Psych forum, but this particular forum has a high level of emotion, thus ensuring both spirited and spiritual answers.
If you take a look at my Q&A, you will find this too be true. I rarely ask questions of a spiritual nature, but rather of a human nature. Most of the questions that I answer have to do with humanity as well. Occasionally, however, the temptation to be a smart @ss towards those who continually belittle me and other atheists does take over and I find myself unable to resist.

It is because mosts athiest are logical people and live a life according to life experiences, not what other people tell them.
The problem is that most athiest would get so much shits from religous people who will start an arguement about God or anything alike, with the bible as their arguement without even finding out the early days of the bible and what they believe today, etc. Most athiests grow up in families with contact to religion, and due to the above average IQ sees through religion and see what religions are doing to the world today.

Because ignorance is detrimental to our health. Even the christian bible says 'My people are destroyed by lack of knowledge'
Christians should keep their religion to themselves. Those Christians that do mind their own business and keep their personal views to themselves and out of the laws should spend their time trying to convince the other Christians to do the same. Unfortunately they dont because they are taught not to judge etc, so the job is left to non believers.
Secondly, I enquire into philosophy, science and history etc. I just dont do it on Yahoo Answers. I am pretty smart, i know how to search the Internet. If I ask questions on here its to get personal ideas or to make a point. Facts I can easily search for elsewhere. I would like Christianity to be done away with. It corrupts so many peoples minds. I think if we are people that learn from history we should have learnt by now that modern society has no place for these types of primitive religions.

Unfortunetly, they're not the only ones. Every religion has people who believe it is their right (for whatever reason), to convert everybody to their path.
Like you said, it's not all atheists. My husband is more or less one (doesn't believe in an interactive diety) but he generally avoids religious talks because of the zealots.
Also, many people are just curious about what others are saying about them or their beliefs and it's hard to ignore when somebody is bashing your religion (or lack of). I often join in the fray of answering religious questions just because there's a lot of ignorant a**holes out there and they bug the crap out of me.
