First of all just relax.... it is normal to have very heavy periods. Just wear a thick pad and change it when you get home from school and before you leave for school. rust me everything will be fine. It happened to me too.

I know how you feel.... I actually had a major embarrassing moment when my sixth grade English teacher wouldn't let me go to the bathroom and I made a huge mess on my chair that she and everyone saw (definately not the highlight of my life).

She never gave me a problem after that (all the other teacher still did), but it's rediculous that had to happen in order to be able to go and take care of my feminine things.

I started wearing tampons immediately after that and I was sooooo happy I switched over. I have never used pads since.... well except panty liners in case my tampon leaked at all. I used to have really heavy periods.

You need to either explain the seriousness of the problem to your mom or buy some tampons yourself. I don't see what the big deal is about using them. It's not like they're any more harmful at 12 than they are at 15 or 16..... and they'll definately make it much easier to go for a longer span of time without making a trip to the ladies room.

Using tampons might upset your mom for a few hours or days even, but the embarrassment of going through what happened to me will scar you for life.

You should see about getting the longer maxi pads that hold alot, or even the overnight pads. They hold a lot more, that is what some women use for heavy bleeding. I know what teachers are like, I tell the school that my daughter needs to be allowed to use the bathroom because she gets really sick with urine infections if she can't go. She has had this problem all her life, and I have a doctor even make a note for me so they believe me. Maybe you can get something like that from your doctor too, or your mom may be able to help you. If your teachers don't know, they just think you are trying to get out of class.

Your not alone. I had this problem also when I was a little older then you. Anyway, have your mom or dad take you to the doctor to see if you are anemic. Anemia is a lack of iron(its a vitamin in your diet). This can sometimes cause you to bleed a lot. It's probably not anything serious, but needs to be addressed. In the mean time get those overnite pads and wear them until you go to the doctor. You can also tell your teacher that you have to go to the bathroom its urgent. Have your parents write a note for you stating this if the teacher doesn't believe you.

I do agree with your mom on the tampon issue. If you are bleeding this bad a tampon isn't going to cut it anyway.

using a tampon will not mean you don't have to change it as often. If you have a heavy period you will still have to change a tampon it can leak FAST that's what the panty liners are for when the tampon leaks. I agree with mom you are to young 4 a tampon anyway i did not use them till almost 15 i'm now 29. TRY USING the overnight pads at school they do hold more are thicker. They are not as comfy as the slimmer pads but they might help. At the store they will say OVERNIGHT on them or heavy flow change them at lunch you should NOT BE going thru a pad every 30 mins.

First of all, go to your Dr. Your periods should not be this heavy, and you don't have to put up with it. Going on the pill will regulate your period, make it lighter, and you will have no surprises, if you take the pill like you are supposed to, then you will know when your period is going to start each month. And if your Mom has concerns then you and your Dr. can assure her that the pill is to help you with your heavy periods. And of course don't think it's free rein to become sexually active, just be responsible here. Good luck to you, I can remember what it was like to be young and worried about what to do in school and feeling self-conscious. It's no fun, but it does get better.
P.S. - I went on the pill in high school, I had never thought of doing that, but I finally got tired of getting my period every other week so I went to the Dr. and he said the pill would help, and he was right and it was such a nice change!

Based on personal experience, I recomend a pad with wings made for overnight protection. They are longer than regular pads and you have a smaller chance of leakage. You can get them in a thin pad, less bulk, same protection. As for the potty break issue, talk with the teachers and explain your situation to them. A woman will understand and a man will most likely go along with it because they don't like to hear about that kind of stuff. If you still have an issue with them letting you go, I would have your mom schedule a meeting with the teacher and/or principal to have the issue resolved.

I had the exact same problem. From 7th grade until 11th grade I had a VERY heavy period, bleeding through a superplus tampon and a maxi pad. The mistake I made was not doing anything about it. The greatest thing that I have ever done was talk to my doctor about it. They put me on a birth control (not for contraception) but to regulate and make my period lighter. My periods have been much lighter and much shorter. Plus, now I know exactly when I am due to start. You should talk to your parents and then your doctor.

I was in the same situation when I was your age.

First, your mom is right... hold off on using tampons because you can get a bad infection especially if your period is heavy and you can't change it often. Second, try talking to the teachers about your situation.

If it's embarassing for you, you may have to wear the giant old-lady pads that hold a lot more. Try the overnight ones that are really thin and have wings, and that should hold you over. I understand what you're going through!

Talk to the school nurse. You still need to change your pad often. If you wait all day just because you are wearing a thicker overnight pad you can cause a other health problems. I was a heavy bleeder also and the longer the wait it was gross. Your periods might change as you get older.

why doesn't your mom want you to use tampons? I would save my daughter the embarrassment of bleeding through and have her use them. Talk to her again about it. Just remember you are not the only girl who goes through this dilema every month. Ask some of your best friends what they do. I would get the pads with the wings on the sides, and thicker the better. I would seriously consider tampons on your own too. They take a while to get used to, but it's far better. Good luck.
