It's like if pigs had wings could they fly. It's just my two cats are chasing a fly right now and it's driving me crazy because cats don't have wings so can not possibly catch the dang thing. What if cats had wings and flew? Wouldn't that be the coolest thing? What about a science fiction short story with flying cats? Would that be a story maybe worth a read?

What if the cats had really, really big wings? I'd hate to write a science fiction story that has flying cats if it's already been done and would be scientifically impossible. Back to the drawing board. But it hasn't been done to death. Maybe.

There's actually a book called Catwings. These kittens were born in a nasty dirty alley and they came out with wings.. It's a little kids' book though. I think there's a second one too.
I think a cat would be too heavy to fly even if they did have wings.
Their bones aren't hollow and their fur isn't very aerodynamic.. I don't think it would work.

I'm not sure about the science fiction story about cats that fly. But since most cats adore heights and love to climb up on high pieces of furniture, I would imagine they would love to have a pair of wings. Although in retrospect, cats with wings indoors could pose a bigger problem for their owners furniture and fixtures through out the house. I think it's a good idea that they don't have wings. I'm a cat lover and I have had indoor and outdoor cats for years. I'm satisfied with their natural God given equipment that each one was born with. Are you?

More importantly, if cats did have wings, and they could fly, how would we dodge all that cat poo? You'd never be able to keep your car clean! We'd have to develope kitty litter stations and hope the stray, flying kitties got the hint.
And what about the cats that like to do the sneak attacks on their owners? It's one thing to dodge a kitty running under your feet, but to get away from one flying down from the ceiling in the middle of night may be tricky.
Maybe we're better off leaving our cats wingless.

okay, thinking about this honestly...
i am in agreement with the fur. not aerodynamic at all. i would also have to say no, as the tail would send them off course, either have them refusing to gain height, or messing with the descent.. then again i could be totally wrong, and the tail upright will help cut into the wind for speed, and downwards as an e brake of sorts...
it could be both!

Someone could write a story about flying cows too. But, oh, what a mess!

I had a cat that could catch flies in mid air with her paws. She didn't need wings.
But then she'd eat them...yuck.

If they also had chest mussel big enough to flap the wings first enough, maybe.
