Voter registration is one way, and the other is DMV records. So if you don't mind not driving or voting, you will never be called.

Pretty big price to pay for not having to do your duty on a jury! Also, remember that being summoned to a jury panel is not the same as being selected for a jury. They call up maybe 75 or even 100 people, but only 12 (maybe two alternates) will actually be selected for the jury.

California selects prospective jurors randomly (and by computer) from lists of registered voters and from lists obtained from the California Department of Motor Vehicles.

Randomly. You are only required to go once a year. When you register to vote you are also put in the state computer as a possible juror.
