Whats the longest commute you would be willing to drive to work daily if you were getting about 300.00 off your rent for moving somewhat further.

About 1 hour (we don't really go by miles here, because 20-30 miles can take hours depending on the route), but I have worked with some people who got up at 3:00 a.m. to be to work by 6:00 a.m. so they could leave at 2:30 or work credit hours. I think it depends on your constitution and what responsibilities you have at home that can or can't be put off. The price of gas is a little lower now, but I doubt that will last; your insurance might go up because of a longer commute; you'll have more wear-and-tear on your vehicle; you might eat supper out more.

I used to have a 60 mile one-way commute that took 60 minutes if I left at 9 AM and 2.5 hours if I left at 7:30 AM. My time is worth more than $300 per month. Try to avoid rush hour if you can.

I used to drive 35 mi one way. A train was out of the question because I never got a seat and the wait was intolerable.
I would not go farther then 10 mi now. To get paid more money to go farther is the same as taking less to travel a lesser distance.

with the price of gas fluctuating you would have to way the decision on whether or not you would be saving at all. because if your gas bill is high it may out way the 300 dollars you could save on your rent bill

well i guess about $300 a month in gas away. so for most people i would say that is pretty far like an hour or so further away. unless of course you drive an suv or something.

50
Then again you might want to figure out how much extra you'll pay in gas. You might not end up saving any money. Or if it's a nicer place, go for it anyway.
