First of all I do give thanks on Thanksgiving for my immediate family myself and my children and what we have even though it is not a whole lot... I do give thanks ... however .. the extended family is such a pain ... leading up to the day we argue over who is not going to allowed at who's home... my mom tried to take over the entire situation and demand we not cook alot and let her do it because SHE wants to .. then all we hear is how much she did and no one else does anything.... she is picky on how much food we take... is critical of everything... my brother who is a drug use and proud of it... insults everyone and looks for any reason to argue and fight.. my other family has a terrible attitude, no one says alot and it is uncomfortable small talk and we all cant wait for it just to get over with..,we are guilted into attending every year due to it could be mom's last year, my father died 5 years ago and no one wants to remember how important he was to the family... it is just one messed up day... I think that if anyone thinks that they have a normal family.... just get together and have thanksgiving dinner together and it is a test of how dysfunctional the family really is... my family is a big embarrasment .. for the last two years I have not gone to the mom's for dinner... but she get offended if she isnt invited to my house.... I am just going out to eat this year... I have had it.....

1.) You have to pretend with people you see once a year that you actually like them.
2.) The single biggest binge drinking holiday is not new years eve.
It is the day before Thanksgiving. Because people dread it.
3.) It is the onset of colder weather ( in the midwest and east)

Families tend to do that. That's why a few years ago, I decided to draw a line in the sand- I have the dinner at my house, with my kids & hubby. If anyone else wants to join, fine, but if they don't....
