Since technology is getting much more advanced and there's that plane that can travel at the speed of sound, is there going to come a time when Airlines require less and less pilots and someday maybe none? If so, how many years from now?

At the moment there are no plane traveling at the speed of sound except the military version. I think BOAC has retired their super-sonic at this time. We have already the technology that planes on the market will take off and land themselves. They will automatically deviate around bad storms. They will select the best altitude according too fuel conversation, and will fly to their destination by way of computer that the pilot will program. In essence it will land itself in what we call zero-zero visability. However we will disengage and take over manually if feasible.
The pilot actually needs to see at leat 1/4 mile in front of him, while maintaning about 140 knots speed. At that speed, and maintaning zero conditions his aircraft will be on the runway.

I guess I don't quite understand the question. Are you saying that we are resorting to planes flying themselves and we don't need pilots? I get newsflashes from Boeing every day. It's amazing how many planes they deliver. All of these new planes means much more jobs. We are using planes from the 80s and now new ones. If anything, I think we are going to have more and more pilot jobs available. And they are just going to keep multiplying.

That day will come when there are enough passengers courageous enough to take a pilotless plane as frequently enough to keep such a plane running! I for one hope it won't happen for a long time if at all.
In any case, planes were invented for the joy of flying and piloting before transport. Let's keep it that way!

Don't worry...they will still need a pilot. The future crew will be composed of a pilot and a dog. The dog will be to bite the pilot if he tries to touch anything. And the pilot, to feed the dog!
hehehhe
