It is called Hypochondria. The fear that you have something wrong with you. and is most often brought on by reading about something or watching something on TV that brings it on. Very common condition.

It would be funny if it wasn't so sad. I have extreme hypochondria. It causes a whole host of arguments between me and others when I try to explain my symptoms to them and what I fear they might mean and I worry sick over dying of some illness. As soon as I get a negative test (CT, ultrasound, xray - you name it) I'm on to the next possible condition and/or I just don't believe the doctor or the results. Trust me, it's not fun, but there are some light-hearted moments when my sympathetic doctor patiently listens to my outlandish fears. Just the other day, I was getting a breast exam (I have pain and tingling) and, while trying to explain the lower abdominal/back pain I've also been having, I told him I also had such a sharp pain in my inner thigh that made me think I had a blood clot. He kept a straight face that time, but, seriously, I've seen him almost lose it before when I was telling him I thought I might have colon cancer and he was trying to explain how to give fecal samples for the hemoccult test. Hilarious. If I wasn't SO concerned about my health CONSTANTLY, it would be incredibly funny because nothing really resolves the crazy ideas.

haha yes all the time. we just learned about this in health class. it's called "hypochondria" when you make up an illness in your head and you don't really have it.
