This is a drug that help you study and focus better correct? Is it hard to get a prescription for it from your family doctor? Is it wrong to use it to study better and preform more effectively in college? What are the potential side effects of taking it? Are there alternate drugs that I can take to focus and study better?

There are other ways to increase your focus: try to change your work environment so that it isn't distracting, look into ginkgo biloba, gotu kola and ginseng.

Ritalin can be very addictive and also tends to become less effective the longer you take it. It was excellent for helping me focus, but I found myself needing larger doses to get the same effect.
If natural supplements such as Gingko Biloba don't do it for you, there is an awesome med called modafinil (brand name Provigil). It provides wakefulness and alertness, yet it remains effective taken on a long-term basis.
Unfortunately, many insurance companies will not pay for it and the cost is outrageous. So I order mine from India!

You need to see a doctor so they can diagnose your problem and medicate effectively, if medication is what you need. There are a number of stimulant drugs to help focus as well as non-stimulants that help as well. Most, however, are controlled substances and need to be prescribed by your physician.

I took it a couple times in college. Didn't notice much effect as far as helping me study goes. It's meant for kids with attention deficit disorder and, frankly, is probably WAY over-prescribed. Unless you have ADD or maybe it's ADHD you shouldn't need it.

AND if you are just plain dumb... no pill is going to help you.
