Tell them its gone put you in a financial bind. You are his wife, you know him and what he wants, they need to chill and let you work your stuff.

Honey, no one can make you do anything you don't want to do especially if you cannot afford it. And if they want it so bad everyone will pitch in. Tell them that you don't think that is fair to place on one person. Tell them that it isn't feasible for you at this time to do it.... Can't no one put a gun up to your head and make you spend your own money. Just say I can't, and I need some assistance on doing it but I will pitch in what I can but not all of it. What would he think about if you asked them. Does he even know your boyfriend's plans? That's a lot to ask for a boyfriend and he's not even a husband!!! Hope that helps...

Just say no. It's way beyond rude for them to suggest something and then assume that you should pay for it, no matter how much money you have or how little they have. Offer to have a nice dinner at home. They should know it's not what you're doing that's important, it's who you are with.

I don't get it...How can they ask YOU to pay for his 50th? Who's throwing the party? You or them? If them, they pay. If you, you pay.

Tell them you can't afford it, if you really can't. Then lay out what you will pay for.

I mean, isn't this kid's stuff? If he's 50, I assume you're about that age too. Just say No.

You said that it's your boyfriends family... Why?
It must be your boyfriend who will do such thing no matter if you're richer than him!

Don't say anything that will just offend his family. I know it's hard to say no but of course you must think first before you say that thing and the reasons why.

You have to talk to your boyfriend first. Because he can easily say it to his family than you to them. Take your time. Don't decide fast and easy. Think of it.

I would tell them since it was their IDEA-it should be their place to foot the bill. Your idea was a peaceful evening at home w/a few friends.

that is rude, he is your boyfriend... not husband... I would explain to them that they will be enjoying the evening too... why can everyone just chip in to cover expenses or cover their own and pay part of the birthday boys.... that way it will not cost everyone more than what they consume and a small 'gift' ... If they still bulk just simply tell them you can not afford to pay for everyone....

He is just a Boyfriend???? Eeee Gads!!! With people like that, there is no "nice" way. If it was me I would say "You have got to be kidding!!!" I would then laugh my *** off and I walk out the door!!!

How presumptuous of them. I would simply say, "I apprecate the feedback and your opinions but I've got something else in mind."

Are they always this selfish?

You might just have to draw the line in the sand and just say, "No." :P
