“The essential problem before the church is not reconciling homosexuality with the Bible but to reconcile the continuous abuse and condemnation of gay and lesbian persons with the love of Christ.” Dr. Harold Gordon Porter, January 19, 1992.
I do not understand several passages in the Bible or at least I fail sufficiently to understand them. Over the years, as I have studied and pondered, the sheer volume of mystery passages for me has changed, but not decreased. Honestly, as I grow disinterested in labeling and dividing Christians into doctrinal camps, some of the issues I used to care about just don’t amount to a hill of beans anymore.
Maybe the Baptists are not all going to hell—poor souls. Maybe God doesn’t shudder when you bring a guitar into Church. And just maybe, I could have taken my girl to prom and she would not have wound up pregnant from the friction of the dance floor as our bodies swayed to that heathen music—think 80s and you’ll be close to the right decade.
But you asked me about homosexuality. So, I will give you my take on it. It is just my take and if you care about the issue, I recommend you do your own study and that you pray, and that you talk to others. In addition, you should read what others have written. You will find a lot on one side of the issue and a little on the other. With God’s love and guidance, I hope you arrive at the right answer.
Anyway, here are my—arguably blasphemous—views. I find that four scriptures can be interpreted as referring to homosexuality; the Leviticus laws, I Corinthians 6:9, Romans 1:26-27, and the story of Sodom and Gomorrah. In my view, none of these verses address a loving, consenting homosexual relationship, but rather acts as we know them that are more akin to what we might read in today’s newspapers regarding former representative Mark Foley and young pages. The abominations in the time of Leviticus and Sodom and Gomorrah included certain homosexual acts condemned, but also other cultural taboos then considered an abomination such as eating pork, wearing garments of two different fabrics, the cross-breeding of cattle, etc. When a heterosexual man becomes sexually involved with another man (and this is what I believe the Bible is addressing), I do not see this as a loving act, but rather an act of power and control, i.e., something to be condemned (as opposed to a consenting, adult relationship between two homosexual men). In any event, Leviticus is part of the old law, which is no longer in effect and whose purpose was to show that man could never follow it.
Jesus brought with him a new covenant. Jesus says nothing about homosexual acts nor do the four gospels. The verse, I Cor 6:9, does not refer to homosexuality, but rather the original Greek word refers to sexual immorality (in Corinth, temple prostitutes were an issue). I view Romans 1:26-27 as referring to homosexual acts performed by people who are clearly heterosexual and exerting dominance over not only women, but younger males as well. Historically, pederasty was a widespread Greco-Roman practice and openly accepted in the culture at that time. I believe the homosexual acts in the Bible refer to pederasty and temple prostitution rather than to a loving, committed relationship between two consenting adults.
In Christ, there is no longer Jew or Greek, there is no longer slave, or free, there is no longer male or female; for all of you are one. Anyway, that’s my shtick on the subject.

â¥yummyâ¥,
I am a Bi Christian. Hi.
"Why is homosexuality an abomination?"
Because it was something that He said was an abomination. Like all other sins that we can do. They are all not the way we were supposed to be. But because sin lives in us, we can do them.
"But... make up is not natural. Plastic surgery is not natural. The mystery meat they served at my high school was certainly not natural."
You have good points. The question I would ask is: Which one of those is something God pointed out as a sin?
"God never said any of those things were abominations."
Ditto.
"There must be a better explanation as to why homosexuality is an abomination, other than "it's not natural"."
As I said before. He said it was. And you can look at pork ans say the same thing. The question I would ask is: "What is the Law supposed to do if we can't be perfect at keeping it?"
The Answer:
Romans 3:19 Now we know that what things soever the law saith, it saith to them who are under the law: that every mouth may be stopped, and all the world may become guilty before God.
We admit the problem to God. We don't attempt to hide things from Him.
Romans 3:20 Therefore by the deeds of the law there shall no flesh be justified in his sight: for by the law is the knowledge of sin.
The Law as I said, comdemns us.
21 But now the righteousness of God without the law is manifested, being witnessed by the law and the prophets;
22 Even the righteousness of God which is by faith of Jesus Christ unto all and upon all them that believe: for there is no difference:
23 For all have sinned, and come short of the glory of God;
24 Being justified freely by his grace through the redemption that is in Christ Jesus:
25 Whom God hath set forth to be a propitiation through faith in his blood, to declare his righteousness for the remission of sins that are past, through the forbearance of God;
Propitiation is the sacrifice acceptable to be sufficient in God's eyes. Thus, our sins are in remission. They are 'cured' in the spiritual sense, though the flesh is weak.
26 To declare, I say, at this time his righteousness: that he might be just, and the justifier of him which believeth in Jesus.
The words used as 'just' and 'justifier' means innocent, or the one who makes innocent.
27 Where is boasting then? It is excluded. By what law? of works? Nay: but by the law of faith.
28 Therefore we conclude that a man is justified by faith without the deeds of the law.
So that's why we say, you gotta have faith. It's what keeps us in contact with the justifier.

I don't think it is. I used to think that being gay was unnatural until I found out that a friend of mine in college was gay. Since I don't abandon my friends, I was willing to listen to his arguments about it and I'm really glad I did.
Behavioral biologists have discovered (quite some decades back, I might add) that homosexuality is very common among many animal species. Why should humans be any different?
Before that, even, Dr. Kinsey (I can't remember his 1st name), published _The Sexual Habits of the Adult Male_, in which, through his research, he discovered that only 5% of humans in his survey (which was vast) are 100% heterosexual. The rest fall along a spectrum (dubbed the Kinsey scale) from 1-6 (the entire scale is 0-6 with 0 being 100% heterosexual).
As for how the Divine fits in, I personally don't believe that the Bible is the literal word of God. I don't claim to know anything about God, not even whether or not He/She/It/They exist. I believe that, if there is some form of Divinity, that Divinity is ineffible and can only be understood through metaphor. I believe, therefore, that all of the world's myths are worth looking at to understand Divinity (IF the Divine even exists - though the Divine itself may be a metaphor for whatever is best for humanity - but that's anothers subject - anyway, that's what Joseph Cambell thought).
My theology now on the table, let me say that, if there is anything Divine, the Divine created animals and humans and MADE some animals homosexual. So too, I think He/She/It/They made some of us humans homosexual. And, I think that's a good thing. Love is love and if different people find different ways of expressing it, I think that's wonderful and Divine.
Moreover, in my opinion, sex is sacred. We all came from a sexual act. Sex, if performed with love in our hearts, is an act that fills us with love for another human being. It connects us. It also balances out our energies. Finally, it's pleasurable, and I think that whatever Divinity may be out there wants us to be happy.

This is true. And you must also think about the fact the Bible is translated from another language.
Did they translate it perfectly? Probably not.
So, I really don't think that is exactly what it meant, in the line you are referring too.
Speaking of that line, most people don't even know where to point it out, but they descriminate against others, using it as backup, everyday.
Also, take into consideration, just lines apart from this, it also tells us to sacrifice a goat once a week, and not to eat shell fish.
Everyone sacrificed their goat for the week?
Lobster anyone?
Most who use this "line" in the Bible as a way to descriminate against homosexuals, don't follow the other parts of this chapter, but they go along with all the other people because that is what they were told to do.

But it's NOT NATURAL!!!!
Look, the Bible says so. (John 3:16)
It's somewhere in the same chapter that says even nature (that stupid slag) knows that long hair on men is a dishonour!
And anyway you used the word homosexuality, so that makes you gay! It doesn't affect me because I said five hail mary's before and after I wrote it.
Plus, IT NASTY!! (Borealachai 6:5-17)
Get prayin'!!!! (Tacoma 21:8-7)
CLICK MY LINK, DAMN YOU!!!!!! OR GOD WILL!!!!!
RRARARRRGHHHH!!!! (Danny 18:42-51)
Also, if you take that other guy's advice and look at what happened to sodom, keep reading, and take a look at what happens after Lot and his daughters are stuck in a cave together. Now that's natural!

If homosexuality is to be condoned, then God would have sent two men to be the first humans on earth, and then get them to sort it out.
Not the case right, the fact that Adam and Eve were there in the first case to procreate, and start a long lineage of human civilizations is testimony of what is natural and what is not.
Do not falsify that misguided lust in homosexuality as love. If you still support Homosexuality, then take a leaf from history and see what happens to good ole gay town Sodom.

The following is taken fron the New Testament:
Rom 1:22 Professing themselves to be wise, they became fools,
Rom 1:23 and changed the glory of the incorruptible God for the likeness of an image of corruptible man, and of birds, and four-footed beasts, and creeping things.
Rom 1:24 Wherefore God gave them up in the lusts of their hearts unto uncleanness, that their bodies should be dishonored among themselves:
Rom 1:25 for that they exchanged the truth of God for a lie, and worshipped and served the creature rather than the Creator, who is blessed for ever. Amen.
Rom 1:26 For this cause God gave them up unto vile passions: for their women changed the natural use into that which is against nature:
Rom 1:27 and likewise also the men, leaving the natural use of the woman, burned in their lust one toward another, men with men working unseemliness, and receiving in themselves that recompense of their error which was due.
Rom 1:28 And even as they refused to have God in their knowledge, God gave them up unto a reprobate mind, to do those things which are not fitting;
Very often,God gave a reason for something. Sometimes, He may not give one that satisfies our notion of logic. Who are you to question God?
When a man takes his penis and sticks it into an E-coli bag of sh*t, you don't see anything disgusting about that?

The stupid idiots who say that being gay is something you chose & not born with have no idea what they are talking about. Why would someone chose to be something that alot of people would hate them for. God made everyone(in my opinion) so he would not condemn them for how he made them. Do you know how many teenagers a year commit suicide(especially boys- I don't know why) because they are so afraid to tell their parents the truth.Parents should except their kids & love them no matter what

In the bible it explains that it is unnatural and if god meant it to be guys w/ guys and girls w/ girls he would have done so during creation but he didn't i know that those things like make up and plastic surgery and "mystery meat" aren't natural either but that stuff was not around in bible times, I'm not saying that you should shun homosexuals but it is to put it bluntly a little strange

Antyhing that goes against the reasons that God created it for is considered an abomination, for example burning sacrifices to other Gods is an abomination. Homosexual behavior cannot and does not support reproduction or the natural purpose for which God created us. In Genesis it states that all animals reproduce after their own kind. Hope this answer helps. Peace be upon your house.
