Please go to your doctor as soon as possible. Not knowing all the details I can't really tell you. But my mom had the same thing, turned out to be degenerative disc disorder in her C-4 and C-5 discs in her neck. Get it checked out, because if it is indeed the disc disorder, you really do not want the disc to swell any more or even worse, slipping the disc. That requires spinal fusion to correct.
Also could be TMJ look it up on yahoo, this could cause the discomfort you are experiencing.

You need to do some daily neck stretching exercises. Just stand up and move your neck around in a circle, 10 times, slowly! The go the opposite way, 10 times, slowly, then move your head side to side, back and forth, etc. All these will get the neck muscles more loose, better blood flow, and less stiff neck! Again, do SLOWLY, you don't want to tear neck muscles.

It'll probably go away after a few days but if it gets worse, go to a doctor. You might have slept at a funny angle, or you may have a tension headache (can cause neck pain). I've had that before and managed on aspirin or advil for a few days. I also carefully adjusted pillows each evening to avoid more pain.

Yeah the same thing has happened to me as well. It's happened to my back as well as my neck. I remember once it happened to my neck but it happened when my neck was on an angle; it didn't go away and I was walking around with my neck on an angle for ages. I think it's probably just bad luck that you have it, if you really want to get rid of it straight away, go see a chiropractor. :)

I used to have this same problem. Needed muscle relaxers to make it go away but it would always come back. I started seeing a chiropractor and I haven't had a problem with my neck for the last 3 yrs.

Not sure, but something close to that has happened to me a few times before. I'm guessing you slept in a weird way or held your neck in a weird position. If it hurts that much then try asking a doctor to help if it won't go away.

Maybe it's a pinched nerve. Put a cold compress for 15 mins. Alternate 15 mins. on and 15 mins. off. Take some ibuprofen, unless you have an aspirin allergy.

I would suggest seeing a medical doctor asap.
Try cold or warm towels around your neck, perhaps the pharmacist can offer something over the counter, med..
