yes after many, many years of constant turmoil, 100 jobs, so many broken relationships, i was diagnosed with BPD and like you after reading the material i was amazed at the overwhelming information and how much of it applied to my life. i also have been a cutter, i cut thru thr tendons in my left arm when i realized i was in Canada one day when i'd left home that morning to go to work. i live in MFEMFEM. i began my meds yesterday and pray many times throughout the day that my life will get better. i'm 42 years old and time is running out for me and how i will live when i reach retirement. don't let this happen to you. go wherever you have to to find that person that is going to make the all important change you so badly need to occur in your life, you can't do it alone. God Bless and Good Luck

Many people suffer from BPD...mostly diagnosed in females, as you probably found in your research. Some cut, some do not. I doubt that you have an addiction to cutting...actually it is a coping skill (a very poor coping skill) that you have chosen to deal with emotional pain. Perhaps you need to talk to your therapist about developing healthier coping mechanisms. And remember this, every time you cut, you let the person(s) who hurt you, in the beginning, win again. I don't think that's what you want. Get the help you need and work hard - harder than you've ever worked - and you can get through this difficult time in your life. Good luck and God bless.

I've suffered from Borderline Personality Disorder for many years now. I fit every symptom except for one or two of them. I've been cutting for the last 15 years, too. It's quite easy to become addicted to the cutting.
I've created my own Self-Injury support site on the web since I've got enough knowledge and experience with it...I think the most important thing is to have support.

Hey there,
When you say Dr., do you mean your general MD or a specialist?
The reason why I ask is that if you believe or have diagnosed with BP your best bet is to go to a counselor that specializes in it. Its a very special disorder within itself and should be treated that way.
The cutting may or may not be a part of the BP disorder. Its been in my experience that people that cut, are hurting so bad on the inside that pain brings them comfort because it takes the inner pain away. Usually some kind of trauma, abuse has occured, and this is a persons way of coping with it. It is a kind of addiction, if you want to call it that. You are going to have to find to meet your needs in a different way. So far, this has worked for you............. But, its not the answer and its going to cause you even more problems....
Therapy, my friend is the key..... Perhaps meds, perhaps not...... Therapy..... Get it all out....

I highly recommend counseling, especially dialectical behavioral therapy (dbt), orginally created by Marsha Linehan . . . it will help to "retrain" thought tendencies and patterns that are destructive and sabotaging.
An excellent book on the subject by someone with BPD is "Get Me Out of Here, My Recovery from Borderline Personality Disorder" by Rachel Reiland.
Wishing you the best.

You need to get a good psychiatrist to deal with this problem in order to save your life. You are not alone. Lots of people have your problem. But it's not normal. So, if you had cancer you'd get a specialist, right? Get a specialist for mental problems, too. A Psychiatrist can help you. Please help yourself and get a good doctor right away before you do harm to yourself or others. God Bless you.

My best friend suffers from this too, and she has adapted. She seems normal a hundred percent of the time. I don't know if it was a medication, but I just thought I'd tell you that it gets better.

one of the biggest things that is common to cutters is abuse. Not all of course, but many many cutters have issues that by letting the pain out through cutting,. they do not have to face it on an emotional level.
