I had to pass a religious test at a job interview recently...

I told them I believed in Jesus

one person wouldn't let it sit and kept asking questions..

turns out they must all believe in same Brother/Sister in Christ stuff to be employees...they effectively mixed god and job and used the religion as a trust issue or bond

so what are good jobs for athiests?

(by the way, they disqualified me with this one...if you died today, do you know you will be in heaven? I said "no" I may believe, but I can't know until there. They did agree I couldn't just believe to work but must produce work to get paid, though and I think it ended at a stalemate of new thought and no reason to argue...)

Well, I sell shoes... It puts nibbles on the table.

What were you interviewing for that they felt it acceptable to ask about your beliefs? I thought that was illegal!

humanist/atheist? Why don't you become a baby murdering abortionist witch doctor, just think how many liberal hollywood celebrities will pay big to get their abortions done quiet-like.

I done also heared that you can get paid a lot to be a big hollywood queer and try to seduce innocent young men into your homosexual lifestyle choice.

But seriously, how did you get sucked into this nonsense? Surely, there must have been some warning signs.

Try working in the office of a synagogue. As long as you're not expecting to get promoted to rabbi, they'll hire anyone. Even me.

Stay away from private institutions, they get to make up all sorts of wacky hiring practices. Government jobs are pretty safe, one of the few places where diversity actually means diverse. Those jobs typically suck. And diversity tends to also include people whose last job involved biting the heads off things for a nickel a look-see.

I think web pornographist is a good bet, although there's so much competition. On the other hand, the porn industry grosses more annually than the motion picture industry. Now that's entertainment!

Or freelance writer. But you probably want to get paid.

Big companies tend to have more of a don't ask, don't tell policy w/r/t religious preference.

I've been to a lot of interviews and have never been asked any religious questions. What job were you applying for ? A Priest ? Apply for any job you want. Who cares if you are an athiest ? They want you to work .. they shouldn't care about your religion. Good Luck! :)

Sue the bastards! It is illegal to discriminate on the basis of religion. Teach these idiots they can't get away with it. Call some lawyers, they will take the case on a contingency basis because they can't lose.

Would you really want to work there anyways?

I have similar beliefs, and have never been asked such questions. If I was I would try and answer likeyou, then not take the job, or take it and try and freak them out.

then again if all the jobs asked that, I'd have to get good at lying.

Where did you try to get a job? Haven't they ever heard of EOE?

A atheist can do any legitimate job.

If you live in America, this is illegal and you had grounds to sue them. Now that you messed it up and pretended to be Christian, you can't sue.
