According to the Crisco website, an unopened can of solid shortening can last for two years from the manufacturer's date on the can. Once opened, it will expire in approximately 6 months. However, if at any time before the 6 month expiration date arrives the shortening develops an off color, taste or smell, throw it away immediately. Hope this helps!

Anything PAST the expiration date is too old!

Here's a web site that explains everything you want to know about storing oils and shortening. Please know that products like Crisco are pure hydrogenated oils, loaded with transfats, and EXTREMELY unhealthy. Please do yourself a favor and don't use it EVER.
