how do you know it has no owner? he may be lost. If he was kept in side his fence he will not know where to go. Have you kept an eye on the lost and found section of the paper? Did you put in a found add? most papers will do found adds for free. And did you call the animal control to see if any one had put in a lost pet report and you need to file a found pet report so the shelter knows where to find you. He may have a chip. Any vet will scan him for you if you can get him to one. If none of those work then he may be a stray. If you keep him think of the long term responsibility and cost or find another person to take him and you will feel better knowing you did all you could for the poor thing good luck

Do what you want with it. My parents used to take in stray dogs all the time and feed them and send them to the vet for shots and exams, etc.. Hell, any dog that happened to stray upon my parents' house hit a gold mind, literally!! I can name a few of them, I think, the last being Attilla, a very small terrier (my dad loved to give ironic names or seeming contradictory names to the dogs), and then there was Chloey, and then there's Wilbur, and . . . well, I can't remember their names. Some have died over the years just from old age, as my dad did last year, but Attila and Wilbur still live out there with my mother, in the country. But then, you may not live in the country and be retired and have all your kids grown and out of the home and have plenty of money to spend. Or you can take it to the animal shelter and hope they find a home for it rather than put it to sleep. You don't have to spend as much money as my parents' did. They just had the money since they lived alone, and so . . ., the stray dogs got the benefit from it all. God Bless you, and your dogs.

Look for a Humane Society in your area.
They keep the dog until someone adopts it.
Its very nice of you to think about the dogs future.
Usually if you take a dog or cat to the humane society and the dog is not yours, you need to tell them that you have kept the dog for 2 weeks or more and you have tried to find its owner. The reason for this is, If you have tried to find the owner and you have not been able to, then YOU can give the dog up for adoption. This is how it works here where I live, dont know if same in your area.

Peace and Love your way.

Buy some chaep dog food and feed it and see if it's harmless, maybe keep it or keep it long enough to find a good home for it,maybe run an ad in the paper , a dog to give away to a good home..it's probably hungry, I hate to see stray animals and it's worse if there skinny..we have adopted several pets that way and sometimes they make the best ones..

For me, there is only one answer. I would keep the dog! You should do that if it is at all possible because I think the dog already cares about you. The next time it comes to visit, try to get it to stay. If you really can't keep the dog, call a rescue group or any non-kill group. Please don't ever resort to calling the pound because they can't keep them long enough to get adopted. You are a good person with a kind heart.

Well there are many things you can do. My recomandation however is post an ad in the news paper. That is where a lot of people turn to for missing dogs or even to adopt. That is you best bet in my opinion! Good Luck! Or you could keep it. Have you ever wanted a dog?.lol

Can you get the dog to come to you? Call a local vet, ask if they do "good Samaritan checkups". They can often find a good home to put the dog. At least they do where I live. If one vet won't keep trying.

You can often place a free ad or inexpensive ad in the papers for a found dog in need of good loving home. Good luck.

Are you able to bring the dog in? If so be sure it is friendly first. You could help himby feeding him and fattening him up a little and then place an ad in the paper. Free to good home. Be sure anyone answering the ad seems fit and reliable.

You could give him a good home yourself! Or find a no kill shelter, or take him in for a little while until you do find him a home. I don't know about where you live, but it's going to be a long, cold winter, and I can't stand the thought of an animal that's meant to be a pet out in the cold. Help him out, you'll be glad you did! :)

Check, make sure it has a collar, if it doesn't keep it! Or put up want ads or call family to see if anyone wants the dog in your family, give the dog a bath of course and feed it and its yours or whoever wants the dog if you can't keep the dog for whatever reason!
