how do i get my windows media player to play vidoe aswell as audio?

my windows media player plays only a black screen on all my video clips even dvds im aware that certain codecs are needed to play certain downloaded clips but this is all of the clips even ones ive played and seen before im sure i must have changed something but im not sure what

You have first to get and install some codecs. K-Lite Codec Pack is a good choice, you can download it here:
