My suggestion would be find a friend who has a dog or cat and spend more time with them. Get to know how your friend cares for them, feeds them, and loves them. In fact ask your friend to let you share in some of the care duties, feeding, walking, etc. Now the chances of you making this tolorance change a quick change are dependent upon how much you really want to be tolorant to them. I hope that helps.

Don't build a tolerance. Why do you think you need to like animals? Some people never like animals and there is nothing wrong with that. so don't let people tell you different. You can visit them at friends houses or any where if you feel the need to pet one but why would you get one. please never get another animal to discard after a short time because of peer pressure or what ever. They are like children and come to love their owners. You would never through away a child. You are not a bad person only one that does not care for animals.

To build a tolerance then you need to be around them. take it slow. If you have family members with pets try offering to do a few things with them like feed them or take them for a walk. maybe go to a zoo just for some care free viewing too. someone recommended a fish but they take work too. you have to take care of the tank and feeding nd trust me the water can smell if you don't. dogs are a lot of work but are great companions. I however prefer a mature lap cat. try one that doesn't shed much hair, They dont have to go out. and can entertain themselves. If you use the right litter and change it regularly there is no smell and they keep themselves clean!

Not everyone is an animal person. If you want to get an animal that does not need a lot of maintenence how about a gold fish to start with. if you can handle that then move up from there.

Don't get one, not everyone is cut out to have one; don't feel guilty.
I admire the fact that you are so honest about it, but please, you aren't doing them a favor because they get attached and then are tossed like a used paper cup.
