for smokers why do you smoke, what got you started and why do you keep on smoking and not quite knowing the health risks?

I started in high school because of peer pressure; it seemed to be the "cool" or mature thing when i was that age. I continued for awhile, knowing the health risks, but never thinking they can affect me (because i only smoked a pack a week.) I've since stopped because I realize it's stupid and a waste of money and a lot of boys refuse to date girls who smoke.

I started smoking when I was 16 (friends started, I started) , and eventually I quit, but started again, quit again, only to start again. I always light up again when it's a stressful time. I know nicotine can be highly addictive but I'm not physically addicted to it, just psychologically. I'm down to one a day, and I hope to be rid of it soon. As for the health risks, I think every smoker is in denial, and thinks that the bad things associated with smoking can't happen to them. One thing for sure, no one is proud to be a smoker. There is not one redeeming quality when it comes to smoking.

being a former smoker and now a non-smoker I know I smoked and other people smoke because of many factors; peer pressure, addictive personalities, poor coping mechanism, parents who smoke.
My father smoked and I smoked, it was just something to do. I also have an addictive personality so it was hard to quit, but I did. I do not have anyother addictions but a person must understand his or her personal habits to know why they do something

As a smoker, i must say first its quite relaxing. It feels very good to feel the warm smoke in your body . The nicotine gives u a head buzz. With a cold beer there is nothing better. Also one cant deny the cool look you have when you smoke.

Peer pressure, stress, ect. Nicotine is an addictive drug. The cigarette companies load the cigs with it. And if you think your getting less in the lights, think again. Since there has been more awareness about the danger to your health, the cigarette companies are in danger of losing business so they add more nicotine. It's not that most ppl don't want to quit, they can't.

Why are people overweight? Why do people drive cars, knowing they could be killed or mangled in a wreck? Why do people eat spicy or fried foods? Why do people drink water from the faucet, knowing the water source in there area has health hazard warnings? Why do people get drunk? Why do people drive drunk, knowing the risk of injury, death, or prison? Because people don't think it will happen to them
