I often cuss and scream at people in my car, but I don't use my middle finger. So when I pass the offensive car in a fit of rage, I look like I'm screaming. Is this wrong?

I can not say whether or not you need therapy. But it is likely that at some point you will end up harmed physically (through violence by the other party or a car accident), or you will get stopped by police for "road rage" (a loose term that a cop can apply to mean just about anything other than having a fat smile on your face) and arrested, regardless of the other person's poor driving.

I can offer my experience of how I overcame similar frustrations. With so many poor and/or inconsiderate drivers on the road, I too used to get royally pissed a lot. That annoyance would often screw up the rest of my trip, because I would keep murmurring to myself about the matter all the way. But at some point, I realised that these episodes of anger were not accomplishing anything positive for me. Even though I was justified in being annoyed, the one who was ultimately affected was me, not the other guy. (That person is unlikely to change, even though I might have visually expressed my frustration/anger).

In reference to your behaviour, you asked "Is this wrong?". A long time ago, I had an awful experience from which I learned the following: **There are times in life when you can be right, and yet it really does not matter.**

Probably all of us have gone through experiences in which this proved to be true. Yet, instead of learning from them, it is easy to go through life repeating one's reactions, and, at some point, YOU (not the other person) end up suffering seriously for it in some physical way or even mentally, because it drains your energy and destroys your happiness.

Now, when I see someone doing something bothersome or inconsiderate on the road, I am disciplined enough to ignore it, move to another lane, or, if necessary, put up with it calmly until I can get away from the person. (I actually can not even remember the last time when I reacted even close to how you described). The real solution here for you may simply be to discipline yourself to better react (by generally not reacting) to the bad driving of others.

I had the same problem b4. Now I am fine.

Try listening to Christian musics or some education tapes like, "How to tap into your Sub-Concious".

Once you put your mind to another subject, you tend to focus less on slow/irritating drivers around you.

Remember, dont road rage. You dont know if that person will pull out a gun.

Just imagine: This person has a gun and is realy to KILL. SO, dont road rage that person.

LOL no I don't think you need therapy...just some self-control. You know how I know? I do the same. The funny thing is, I didn't have as much road rage until I got pregnant with my daughter and had crazy hormones...she's now 4 months old and I still find myself yelling at other drivers using choice words...and I immediately think, "Geez, a little self-control?!" lol You're not alone, though. :-)

Yes, this is wrong. Get your anger under control before you cause an accident. Keep in mind that police can arrest you for road rage behavior. Try an anger management class. You can probably get a referral from your doctor.

Road rage is very dangerous, to you that is. Some time you may come across someone who has it worse than you can they might follow you. Think about yourself, do you feel really angry inside normally, very stressed by something? If you feel like you have a short fuse alot then I would say you certainly do need counseling. I think everyone gets frustrated to some point with stupid drivers. I mumble to myself at them at times. That doesn't make me have road rage. If I were to follow them or stare them down to intimidate them I might question if I did.

Yes, you need to get a handle on your road rage. Why do you let other drivers upset you so much ?
