Gargle with mouthwash or salt water. Throat drops like Cepacol work well too. However if you've had the sore throat for more than two days you might have strep throat which requires antibiotics to get rid of. You might have to see a doctor anyway.

Problems with NOT going to the doctor is if it is Strep Throat or Tonsillitis that needs an antibiotic.
But, try gargling with warm salt water. Put about 8 ounces of pretty warm water (NOT hot) in a glass & disolve a level Tablespoon of IODIZED table salt & gargle with it. Use all of it, do NOT swallow it & do this several times per day.
If your throat is NOT better in three days, GO TO A DOCTOR!!

try gargaling with warm salt water or listerine. if you are running a temp, if the sore throat does not improve in a few days, or if it gets worse, you really should consider seeing a doctor. if its viral your sore throat will clear on its own, but if its bacterial you may need antibiotics to get over it. if there are white spots on your tonsils you really need to see a doctor right away...its probably strep. you could also call this nursing help line for advice 1-800-622-9524. hope you feel better soon. and dont forget to drink lots of fluids.

you could use a gargle with warm salt water with an aspirin in it 3x a day if it's accompanied by a fever go to the Dr. anyway and get some antibiotics plenty of fluids and a soft diet that won't irritate it further Good Luck

Well...you could try drinking some hot stuff like tea, soup, etc you know things like that sometimes i put a scarf around my neck so that it heats up and then after a while it goes away. But like everyone else said if it gets really bad maybe you should consider going to a doctor.

warm salt water gargle soothes a sore throat.
take about 1/4 teaspoon to a juice glass full don't swallow it spit it out in the sink. tastes crappy but it works.
peroxide will do the same, but again don't drink it. swish and gargle, spit it out.
hope you feel better.

lemon juice with honey (adjust to your preference) in hot/luke warm water (so you can easily drink it but still quite warm) try drinking that every couple of hours and if it persists go back to your doctor or a different one.
